In early 1998 Mental Amputation, a new underground death metal act was brought to life. After a series of Line-Up changes in 2009 the band now consists of: Fabian Guschlbauer (Guitar), Mike Pflug (Guitar), Kay Schwarze (Drums), Bernd Kombrink (Vocals) and Michael Schuster (Bass).
The stylistic trademarks of Mental Amputation root in the genre of death and thrash which reigned the early 90's. The combination of death and thrash elements leads to the brutality and aggressivity of every single song, dominated by velocity as much as deep grunts. Additionally melodic riffs and clean-parts are integrated in the songs, composing the perfect counterpart to their brutality while emphasizing their atmosphere and power. This leads to a good deal of individuality in the sound of the band.
In the end of January 2001 Mental Amputation recorded their demo debut "Mass Crisis". Due to countless positive reviews Mental Amputation decided to involve actively in the underground scene by playing numerous, often self-directed, concerts and festivals. This way Mental Amputation shared the stage with bands such as Vader, Katatonia, Sodom, Six Feet Under, Incantation, Grave, The Forsaken, Fleshcrawl, Tankard, Belphegor, Avulsed, Dew-Scented and many more. In addition successful festival gigs such as Mountains of Death 02, Soul Grinding Festival 03, Summer Breeze 04 and Fuck the Commerce 06 were played.
In 2007 Mental Amputation released their first long-player "Utter Subordination", which was recorded at "Sound-Art Studios". Up until today the band is in search of a fitting label to support the band in their efforts and help them advance even further. The songs on “Utter Subordination” are way more intense, the guitars focus on melodic leads and technical solos and the drumming is crushing and rich of intricate fills. The vocals are dominated by variability and raw brutality.
At the moment Mental Amputation are working on new songs for a new album.
With the new members and new material they’re ready once again to play live and shake the underground!
