Maurizio D’Ambrosio is a man of many aliases but Mephisto is unquestionably his most famous.
He has been producing and remixing for a wide variety of labels such as the legendary Media Records, East West/Warner Music, EMI/Virgin, Universal and Ego.
Since 1991, collecting numerous Top 20 hit records such as “State Of Mind” - number 1 in the Italian Club and Sales Charts, “You Got Me Burnin’ Up” - Top 20 in the U.K. Dance Charts, and “Voices” and "Mystery (Of Love) – n° 2 and 3 in the French Dance Chart and Top 10 in the French Sales Chart.
In the 2002 Maurizio D'Ambrosio produced with another alias Elgar "Sweetie Pie" (Universal), the song was famous thanks to a vocal sample of Billie Holiday recorded the 24th march 1944, it was a top ten in the italian sales chart.
Alongside his hectic DJ and production work schedule, Maurizio has also managed to find the time to run some of the best Italian clubs such as Baia Imperiale and Peter Pan in Riccione, hosting guest DJ’s such as Bob Sinclar, Fedde Le Grand, Joe T Vannelli to name but a few.
After a quite long break, he decided to revamp his Mephisto moniker with “The Beat Of The Bee” - probably one of the freshest tunes in the World right now, this really sounds different from anything else around at the moment, and for sure his most special track to date. The Original Mix is a huge bleepy electronic groover with an emotional breakdown full of pads and strings that take the track into pure synth heaven. Early support from the best world djs.

Nel 1991 nasce il progetto “Mephisto”.
Con questo nome d’arte Maurizio D'Ambrosio produce vari mix tra i quali “Euphemia” (’91) e “State of mind” (’93).
Nel Febbraio-Marzo ’93 “State of mind” diventa n° 1 dei dischi più ballati e più venduti in Italia (32.000 singoli venduti).
Seguono “Keep on Groovin’” (top 20 Italia) e subito dopo “You Got Me Burnin’ Up” che arriva nelle top 20 delle Dance Charts in UK/Germania/Francia/Scandinavia/Italia.
E’ del Giugno 1994 il remix di “The Rhythm of the Night” di Corona, grande successo europeo.
All’inizio del 1996 Maurizio D’Ambrosio produce“Voices” che esce ad Agosto in Francia arrivando al n° 2 Dance Charts / Top 10 nelle vendite ufficiali dei singoli e n°1 in quella dei Mix più venduti.
Di questo brano verrà prodotto un video che sarà poi programmato dai vari canali musicali satellitari europei (MCM – MTV – VIVA – ONIX).
Nell’Aprile del 1997 esce “Mystery (of Love)” riscuotendo enorme successo in Francia, Scandinavia e BeNeLux e piazzandosi anche al n°8 della speciale classifica dei dischi più trasmessi in Europa da NRJ Network (Francia/Scandinavia/Germania). Il singolo resta nella top ten dei singoli più venduti in Francia e al n°3 della club chart per tutta l'estate del '97, stessa cosa avviene in Scandinavia, dove "mystery (of love)" è nelle prime 3 posizioni delle varie classifiche di vendita dei vari territori (Norvegia, Svezia, Finlandia, Danimarca).
Per tutto il periodo ‘96/’99 Mephisto suona come dj nei migliori club francesi, da Parigi a Montecarlo, da Marsiglia a Lille, ospite per la festa nazionale francese nello speciale evento in Piazza della Bastiglia insieme ad ospiti del calibro di Ricky Martin e Spyce Girls.
Nel 2000 Maurizio D’Ambrosio produrrà con nuovi pseudonimi progetti come ALPHA DJ “Urlando contro il cielo” (Top 10 Italian dance charts) – TAMPURA “Love in the casbah” (Top 20 Italian dance charts) e un progetto house POSITIVE POLE con un cantante di Boston di nome LARRY WOODLEY.
Il primo singolo di questo nuovo lavoro, “My Music”, viene licenziato in Germania / Austria / Svizzera dalla East West/Warner.
Il secondo,“You Belong to me”, viene prodotto con la Emi/Virgin per tutto il mondo, eccetto Germania, Austria e Svizzera dove viene realizzato dalla East West/Warner
Nel 2002 nasce un nuovo progetto discografico con la Universal, Elgar.
Il singolo “Sweetie Pie” è un grande successo in Italia (2002), tra i dischi più venduti e tra i più trasmessi dalle radio nazionali, , conosciutissimo grazie anche al sample di voce tratto da una registrazione originale risalente al 24 Marzo 1944 (autorizzata dalla EMI di New York)dell’indimenticabile Billie Holiday.
Il secondo singolo “Lovely Holiday” sarà la sigla ufficiale di Striscia la notizia (Canale 5) per tutto il periodo natalizio del 2002.
Per due stagioni, 2005 e 2006, Maurizio si occupa con grande successo della Direzione Artistica di una delle discoteche più famose d’Italia: la Baia Imperiale di Gabicce Mare.
Estate 2008 e 2009 si occupa insieme a Massimo Buffagni della direzione artistica del Peter Pan di Riccione, locale di riferimento della riviera romagnola
