  • Bio

The New Pollutants are the musical dynamic duo of Benjamin Speed (Mister Speed) and Tyson Hopprich (DJ TR!P). They are thrilled to present their newly composed score to Fritz Lang’s classic silent film, Metropolis. They perform the score live, accompanied by vocalist Astrid Pill and cellist Zoe Barry. The score was conceived, composed and recorded over a 12-month period and had its world premiere, to rapturous applause, at the 2005 Adelaide Film Festival. The Metropolis Re-Score ran a successful season as part Next Wave Festival at ACMI in Melbourne for the Commonwealth Games in 2006, was performed at the Revelation Perth International Film Festival in 2006, the Sydney Opera House in 2010 and Mona Foma Festival in 2011. In 2011 The New Pollutants are updating their score to coincide with the newly released 2010 restoration with 30 minutes of newly found footage. This will once again premiere at the Adelaide Film Festival in 2011. Since its premiere in 1927, Metropolis has been seen only in shortened or truncated versions, now it can be appreciated in its full glory, with a brand new score by The New Pollutants.
