Michael is an accomplished world musician who's love for music and search for his native heritage led him to the Native American Wood Flute. With over 35 years of experience and as a performance and studio musician, as a drummer and world percussionist, Michael developed his talents and perfected his gift for mastering intricate rhythms. He later learned, under the teachings of Kenneth Leonard, the electric, acoustic and classical guitars as well as music theory, history and ethnomusicology as a private student. With this knowledge, Michael desired to incorporate as many different types of instruments and backgrounds into his recording compositions - especially Native instruments. Michael's passion and interest has always been in the music arena. He is a perfectionist and feels it lends well to this craft. With this passion Michael has followed his heart and has begun teaching on the ancient methods, as well as today's methods, of construction and uses of the flute in the Native ways of life. Michael has dedicated his life to educating and teaching his Native culture and using his expertise in the flute as a catalyst for this training.
Michael is a full time musician and performer as well as a full time wood flute maker. He travels and educates on Native American culture and heritage across the country. He teaches in various arenas, from historical societies, corporate business and day care facilities to colleges and national events.
Michael is proud to be Cherokee & Powhatan descent.... Michael is a Just Plain Folks Music Awards 2006 Album of the Year winner for his cd Voice From Within and a Song of the Year nominee for The Gathering. He was a 2008 NAMA nominee for his DVD release, Live In Concert. Also, a 2006 Nama Award nominee entree for six categories. He also was nominated for the ABORIGINAL PEOPLE'S CHOICE AWARDS in 3 categories for his Un earthed cd release....
Michael has also been nominated for 'Artist Of The Year' from the
Yankee Peddler Foundation - 2005

This project is a collection of songs which may not have the same 'main' or 'lead' instrument or feel, but, a connective thread through the subject matter of ceremony. Some songs on this release were born from a Native American, or Original Peoples culture, such as The Booger Dance and Chilam Balam. Other songs are from an African culture, the old Mayan and Aztec culture, Japanese culture as well as the Celtic culture.
MICHAEL SEARCHING BEAR: Live In Concert
Native American wood flute performance combined with other unique world instrumentation. Michael Searching Bear's Live In Concert dvd release promises to be a benchmark for Native American concerts.
MICHAEL SEARCHING BEAR: Un Earthed
A perfect balance of Native American flute, percussion & vocals with more contemporary instrumentation - fused together without taking away the integrity of either cultures.
MICHAEL SEARCHING BEAR: Voice From Within
Contemplative, reflective, original and visionary Native American flute songs with nature sounds as well as musical effects; some are gentle accompanied by guitar and vocals.
After you've finished here, you may like to hear this poem sung on myspace...
Poem 2 of 230, WalkaboutsVerse (please see my blog): WALKABOUT WITH MY PEN
Once drove an old sedan, up north, From a place in Sydney to Cairns; Then to Kuranda I went forth, By train, to look without set plans.
I browsed through the trendy market, With fresh fruits of tropical kind; Walked to the creek through lush thicket - Nature’s hand giving peace of mind.
I dined in a scenic cafe; Then, outside, as I wrote for yen, Some passing Kooris called-out: “Hey, You go walkabout with your pen.”
Request or question, I don’t know - Assured voices, elderly men. That’s now several years ago, And I’ve seen the world - with my pen.
Thank you so much for being in my circle of friendz, and Make yourself a good day. Much Love, Light, and Laughter your way. Blessings to you and yours...
