About Michal

Michal Towber was born in Ashkelon Israel, and grew up in New York City. She started playing classical piano at 6, and taught herself to play guitar after hearing Nirvana at 13. Within weeks she was playing out at the Sidewalk Cafe Anti-folk open mics and other venues in New York's lower east side. She was discovered by her manager, Karen Edlitz, one night at Sidewalk. Together they produced a demo which caught the ears of Don Devito at Columbia/SONY records. She signed a major record deal on her 17th birthday. Her debut album, Sky With Stars (2000) was co-produced by Michal and Dave Pirner, frontman of Soul Asylum. In 2002 she released "Coma", and in 2005 she released "Desireless." She writes songs for One Life To Live and won an emmy for her work on the show in 2005. A true Renaissance woman, she also graduated from Yale and is attending Columbia Law School, with a focus on Intellectual Property law. Now an independent, unsigned artist, she hopes to use her legal knowledge to navigate the quickly changing music industry.
