Les voyages représentent une source d’inspiration inépuisable: dans les arts graphiques des peintres comme Van Gogh et Gaugin ont rendu dans leur tableaux l’esprit et les couleurs des lieux où ils vivaient; Goethe pendant son voyage en Italie produit un epistolare très célèbre et un géant du saxophone tenor comme John Coltrane après noumbreuse tournées en Orient avait epuisé pas seulement une religion nouvelle mais aussi une culture musicale comme celle indienne. “ UN FLEUR NOUVEAU “ c’est un hommage que Michel Giuliani a voulu dédier à la mère de tous les continents: l’AFRIQUE. Les mélodies de son piano sont un appeal extraordinaire aux espaces et à la verginité de lieux qui ont joué un role très importante dans son formation artistique et spirituelle. “ UN FLEUR NOUVEAU “ constitue aussi une sorte de point d’arrivée musicale où les influences de pianistes comme Mal Waldron et Keith Jarrett se fondent dans un sound tout à fait nuoveau qui rappelle les thèmes du jazz traditionels et par contre ceux qui étaient recontés de Keith Jarrett dans ses encroyables improvisations de piano solo dans les années 70. Cependant les racines jazz de cet album peuvent s’écouter dans deux chansons très connues comme “ LUSH LIFE “ et “ SUMMERTIME “ qui completent une sélection de morceaux composés et arrangés par le meme Michel Giuliani qui a d’ailleurs déjà eu des experiences en tant que composeur et arrangeur dans des bands dont il était le leader et qui ne jouaient pas seulement du jazz. En effet la formation musicale de ce jeune pianiste à été caracterisée par des experiences dans des genres comme le art rock et le soul-funk qui ont contribué a créer un profile éclectique et costamment à la recerche de sonorité nouvelles. “ UN FLEUR NOUVEAU “ ce n’est pas seulement la première production en piano solo de Michel Giuliani mais aussi un pierre milliare dans sa jeune et brillant carrière.
I am a piano player and composer from the South of Italy.
I began my soloist career in 2005, after several others studio and live collaborations, recording a piano solo including some ideas born from my journey in Africa, "Un fiore nuovo".
My reasearch and sound is strongly influenced by my land (Apulien) and the severals travels beetween Europe and Africa brought me to record the album "Essence" with the precious collaboration of famous italian jazz musicians (Giorgio vendola, Pippo D'ambrosio) and two african artist
form Burkina Faso, Gabin Dabirè and Paul Dabirè who work in all Europe since over 20 years.
"Roots" is my last album recorded with "Reunion Platz", a musicians collective (Cesare Pastanella on percussions, Marcello Piarulli, bass, Valerio Zaccaro on flute, me) founded in order to arrange and record my new compositions and above all, to live perform. "Roots" also features Gabin Dabirè, Davide Viterbo on cello and Cabildo Blanco, an afro-cuban folk band.

Michele Giuliani & Reunion Platz | "ROOTS" Michele Giuliani (2009)
With Roots, the young and talented Italian pianist/composer Michele Giuliani leads a new wave of African jazz, achieving an innovative approach to world music.
Giuliani's ensemble magnificently joins different styles and musical cultures together. Africa remains the main source of inspiration, but folk, jazz and blues highlight the group's presence on the beautiful "'Till the End of the World," and on Giuliani's piano solo tribute to Miriam Makeba, "Saduva."
The music of Roots is mainly based on Afro melodies, where international vocal star Gabin Dabiré recalls the mysticism of traditional tribal song.
The project also features an Afro/Cuban ensemble, conducted by percussionist Cesare Pastanella, on "Astatke's Mood," dedicated to Ethiopian musician/arranger Mulatu Astatke, featuring a remarkable flute solo from Valerio Zaccaro, whose sound recalls the beautiful, dark atmosphere of Rahsaan Roland Kirk on Rip, Rig and Panic (Limelight, 1965).
Giuliani and his band have created a vivid and intense album that overcomes the limits of traditional musical boundaries; evocative and refreshingly contrasting some super-polished jazz records.
