.. Welcome! We've changed our name! Formerly known as the Central District Organization, we are now the CENTRAL DISTRICT ORGANIZING PROJECT, or CDOP (pronounced CEE-dopp). The new name is a little easier on the tongue, and it better describes our mission. CDOP is not just another organization, rather, it is an effort to organize Gary residents to mobilize and take action on the issues we face. We are a community organizing collective working together to gain power to improve the historic Midtown/Central District neighborhood in Gary, Indiana. We unite residents, religious organizations, community organizations, and individual activists into a powerful coalition fighting for social and economic justice in OUR community. Our organization develops grassroots leaders & organizes local issue campaigns, utilizing "direct action" organizing to win real improvements in the lives of real people. In accord with that mission, we also operate ANANSI'S WEB YOUTH MEDIA ACTION PROJECT, a youth leadership program that cultivates youth voice and empowerment in Gary by engaging local teens in youth media, technology, personal development, and social justice activism.
