Sounds Like
Afro-Electronique, music from the soul to the mind!
a seamless intergration of Nigerian AfroBeat, Drum and Bass rhythms, lush harmonies all put into memorable, hip shaking tunes.
A: The explosion of afro-beat, electronic texture, heavy groove, and polyrhythmic layers created by the dynamic 8-piece group Mifuné.
Formed as a composers collective in 2004, Mifune started with a mission: Create great original music that is rewarding on multiple levels for both the group and the listeners. Not to just "play" the music, but extract the music from the soul and send it to the mind.
Upon listening, one hears shades of the funk laden groove of afro-beat founder Fela Kuti, the electro-infused sexiness of Brazilian Girls (a group that mifune opened for during a sold out performance) and the catchy layering style of Stereolab (a group that Mifune was chosen to honor on the internationally released tribute "the politics of photosynthesis".)
In a little over a year since their 2005 live debut, Mifune has captured the attention of both local and regional fans and media alike. In May 2006 Mifune conceived of and played host to Afro-Fest 2006. The very successful event marked the first time that a festival dedicated to Afro-Beat and world rhythms was held in the Cleveland area.
In Oct 2006 Mifune's debut album "afro-electronique" was released to a very expectant and ever-growing fan base. Mifune's travels to the east coast, south and beyond in support of the album have spread the word even further and show that music fans from across the board can find an element of Mifune that stirs their soul.
2007 has seen the group continue to grow in many ways. In early 07' the group was named best world/ethnic group in the cleveland FreeTimes music awards. And in March they hosted the sell out follow up to the 2006 afrofest. Currently in the studio working on their second effort, Mifune still shows no sign of slowing down as regional tour dates for 08' keep stacking up.

My friend and I are coming to the Townie Party on Monday. I'll be coming from work and want to make sure that I don't miss you guys. Any idea what time you will be playing? Hopefully not right at 5pm ... that would be tricky
Sorry I missed you guys yesterday at River Days ... I wasn't able to get down there until later in the afternoon. And I didn't get a chance to chat with you much at Bell's - but it was a great set!
I'm glad to see that you are playing the Art Fair Townie party in Ann Arbor -- because go figure, when you are playing in Ann Arbor later that week I'll be in Cleveland for Warped Tour.
One of these days I'd love to see you at one of your Cleveland shows. Especially if you entice The Macpodz to come down there to play with you!
Kalamazoo, Detroit, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Ann Arbor....it makes no difference. You all are amaaaazing performers and musicians. It makes whatever travel time I have to go see you all worth it! Congrats on great shows and thanks for helping to make my weekend pleasant! Love ya and see ya soon.
OMG, Ladies and Gents, your shows keep getting better and better! Last night at Bell's was AMAAAAZING!!!! I am really looking forward to tomorrow in Detroit. Safe journeys! But it is your friendship that means soooo much, too. Thank you one and all. Love ya!
Hey. I found out about you from a few friends and saw you at the Barking Spider on 6/13. You are fantastic. I'm sure I'll be going to more of your shows.
i was wondering what time you will be playing at the barking spider. i'm going to the indian's game that night but my mom is probably coming but if you go on late enough i'm hoping that i will be able to come after the game. please let me know asap. thanks so much. peace&love. sarah
To help remember me... I am Nick's (from the macpodz) girlfriend. I first saw you guys play with them in Toledo and have seen you many times since. Love to hear ya'll swing it.
well, Kleve told me about you guys. so it's all his fault. I came out to see you the other day at the brothers lounge.....it rocked and grooved and skanked and was just all around exellently awesome.
P.s. Monsterbation not only causes hair on your palms, but all over your body--especially on a full moon.
I completely enjoyed your set at Stanley's in Cincy. Mifune's music is such an exciting experience & such a breath of fresh air on the music scene today. (And I totally dig it!) Looking forward to seeing you perform again real soon. Namaste~ Krishna
A great, great show last night at Brother's! I enjoyed seeing that show, but most of all, my friends, I enjoyed seeing you this weekend. Thanks soooooo much for everything and special thanks to Jacob and Christy! Great musicians, yes, but you are all even nicer people! I can't wait to see y'all again!
I caught some of your set at summercamp this weekend and you guys sounded GREAT! I'll definitely be on the lookout for any Columbus shows in the future.
