Member Since8/21/2006
Band MembersStill a one-man band right now :(
InfluencesIt's a kind of a mixture of standard rock/pop sounds and country/folk/roots music. My big musical heroes are: Mark Knopfler (formerly of Dire Straits) - a truely phenomenal musician who's sheer talant has inspired me to no end. He's an influence on me in all the elements of music, be it in terms of playing the guitar, writing songs or playing live. Sting (formerly of The Police) - another hero of mine, ever since I was about 8 years old. I'm particularly fond of his work during the mid-'90's, both live and in the studio. Others include: Jimmy Nail, Paul Simon, Fleetwood Mac, Paul McCartney, Emmylou Harris, Elton John, Pet Shop Boys, Simply Red, Coldplay, Bob Dylan, and many others!
Sounds LikeWith any luck, I should hope I sound like myself! You can look at my musical influences to get an idea, but the idea is to be as unique as I possibly can.
Type of LabelNone

   About Mike Child
I've been into music in a big way really since I was about 4 or 5, possibly earlier. I distinctly remember having this little toy piano - it was just this little plastic thing which doubled up as a Glockenspiel, but even then I somehow managed to get a tune out of it. I suppose it made my parents realise that I had an ear for music as I could pick up melodies from LP's I'd heard or cassettes we'd listen to in the car. So a few years later I wound up taking classical piano lessons, which I did for about 9 years until I got fed up with playing the same tunes all the time! I was always heading for rock 'n' roll, and when I stopped those lessons I had already fallen in love with playing the guitar. My first big musical hero was Sting, who I discovered thanks to my Dad who bought his 'Fields of Gold' album. I proceeded to buy his entire back-catalogue and his talent for songwriting and performing still influences me now. I had the honour of meeting him in May 2006 at his private party (having been given a doctorite by Newcastle University), and the photo is in my gallery! My other HUGE musical hero is Mark Knopfler, the phenomenally talented lead singer, guitarist and songwriter of Dire Straits. The album that got me into his music properly was 'The Ragpicker's Dream' (2002); it's such an intimate heart-warming album and the quality was such that I quickly bought all his other releases and realised how consistantly high he has kept the quality of his material. He is a master craftsman, who seems to improve with age and each album he releases provides me with fresh musical inspiration. And Mark was the one who got me into playing the guitar properly. My music these days is much more rootsy and more folk influenced than before (probably thanks to MK!), and I intend to get this newer material recorded and uploaded to this site. PS - here are some websites you MUST check out - your life DEPENDS on it. http://www.mark-knopfler-news.co.uk/ http://www.mark-knopfler.co.uk/ http://www.sting.com/ http://www.beautifulbritain.plus.com/charlie_dimmock.htm
