Mike- Vocals, acoustic or electric guitars (depends on the show, sometimes both), looping, harmonica, mountain dulcimer, ukelele
And the occasional guest. I get lonely sometimes, y'know?
Influences
I love the Cincinnati music scene from the 60s and 70s... bands like The Sacred Mushroom, Bitter Blood Street Theatre, Wheels and Balderdash. I'm very into learning about Cincinnati's music scene from that time.
Other than that, the main artists that really made me want to play, and make me want to keep playing are Pink Floyd, Thrice, Bob Dylan, Bright Eyes, Pete Seeger, Woody Guthrie, The Black Crowes, The Band, BB King, Buddy Guy and the Allman Brothers Band. I'm very eclectic as a musician, the kind of stuff I play depends a lot on the situation. If you listen closely, I think all my influences show.
I've been lucky enough to share a stage with many amazing local and national acts over the past couple years, such as: LVNMUZIQ, Raining In Darling, Ricky Nye, Frontier Folk Nebraska, Jake Speed and the Freddies, Tree Of Life, 46 Long, Kim Taylor, Diamond Blue, Kyle Hamlet, Shakedown Mountain, Jamon Zeiler, The Blarnacles, Jeremy Francis, Lamb Of Evendale, Dave Sams/Luna Tanz, Woodnote, Somewhat Different, The Weekenders, SSR, the Anti-Cop League, Cosmic Affliction, Adire, Papa Shango, Dugan & the Cinnamon Stix, The Overtones, Probasco, Kyle Smith, Michael Hoffman, Kate Haralson, Where The City Turns To Trees.
Hi, I'm Mike. I'm a songwriter and musician from Cincinnati. I try a lot of different things, and with shows I kind of have a Jekyll/Hyde persona. I sometimes just bring a couple acoustic guitars and some harmonicas, but other times I try to be a little more interesting. I play solo electric shows where I'll record loops of drum, bass and rhythm guitars live and then play and sing over them. I can effectively play jammed out, full band sounding rock songs by myself without using anything prerecorded. I write my songs with the hope that I'll write something good enough to help someone- anyone, the way that great songs have helped me. I don't know if I've succeeded yet, but I'm not giving up anytime soon.
Thanks for coming!
-Mike
BOOKING
I'm always looking for shows, if you've got one that isn't a Battle Of The Bands then I'd love to play it. Message me on here or e-mail xmikeconnollyx@aol.com.
No problem at all, maybe your recordings can be a sign of your gratitude? :) When I start gigging I have a friend who said he would record me, so whenever that may be, you'll have those coming your way. And remember, you gotta give Lexington a visit!
To the dude below me, I think it did. Reminded me alot of Pink Moon, which I love. Anyhow Mike, remember the huge ballad I posted on UG a while back in the lyrics section? It's up on my page now, first song. Please check it out! Later, -Joplin
Is it my imagination, or did "Stars" once have a sudden, Nick Drakish, addition of piano at the end? What happened to that? I used to dig that. (I concede that I might be thinking of something else.) Best.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU, HAPPY BIRTHDAY DEAR MIKE, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU! Hope you have a nice nutty pecan pie day:) Luv ya, your mom<3
I may give learning a few things another go later. By the way, have you ever listened to Blitzen Trapper? They're great, definitely something any Dylanhead would enjoy. Then again, I've only heard one song -- Black River Killer.
The only thing more frustrating than a mandolin is a 5-string banjo...I try to play, but nothing works out. And I feel like I've asked you this before, but what software/hardware do you use in the ways of recording?
Yea, that would be great (both parts!) I'm working on a take on Friend of the Devil right now, I'm just getting down some mandolin and organ parts to add in, maybe some straight-up piano. I want it to be good and at least do the song justice, you know?
Hello Mike, Hope you are well & having a Lovely Spring :) I posted a Couple of Songs I've been wanting to do for a while. One is A Dylan song "I Believe in You" and the other is "Suzanne" a Leonard Cohen song. If you have some time give them a listen. Take Care & Enjoy the rest of the week!! Love Trice xx
I think we agree that our Woodstock40 Festival should benefit music education. We need to decide exactly which organization(s) share the money. I see 2, maybe 3 groups: (VH1?) Save The Music Foundation, Michael Bany Foundation, possibly a Katie Reider fund. Bany has a strong local appeal and may lead to local celebrity cameo appearances, like maybe Bootsy doing a Sly & The Family Stone cover. However, they already have a big annual fundraiser concert of their own. Your thoughts, sir?
Btw, you should hear Elliot Borack. He played a very nice set last night. It was a good night for us but he really stood out.
i actually missed it monday. the people I was going with ended up getting food poisoning that day lol. Which I guess was a good thing because I'm severely broke right now.
hey hey! don't forget about our show in Cincinnati on Tuesday, it's @ The Cup & Saucer Cafe. more info for the show is on our page. i hope we get to see you there :)
