I have been writing songs for years. Playing shows, radio interviews, TV and touring. I have wanted to be in this business since I can remember and have done everything one human can possibly do to try to get there. I have had the pleasure of dealing with some of the best musicians a singer songwriter could ever ask for. Producers that have taught me so much of what I know, which I am grateful. I have dealt with a lot of “music business” executives over the years as well. Some of whom would turn out to be the coolest people and most helpful to me. Some of who are still friends. Back in 2006, after years of pounding pavement, I signed my first record deal. Turned out to be the polar opposite of what I thought a record deal would be, which I know now is usually how a lot of first record deals turn out. My label had done nothing at all for me. Very soon after, lawyers were involved, and the record deal was over before it really got a chance to start. Although the deal wasn’t a good one, the experience it gave me I wouldn’t take back for anything. Funny what you can learn by going through a bad experience. The record that came out of that was “Extraordinary”. “Extraordinary” was a collection of re-mastered demos I had recorded over the course of 3 years, and a few new songs. The songs were co-produced by both David Minehan and Matt Beaudoin. That record helped me gain a lot of fans. Since then, I have taken the DIY route. Much to my surprise, I have gotten more accomplished on my own, then I ever accomplished through others. By others, I mean anyone over the years that had promised that they could be the ones to help to get me where I wanted to be. As it turns out, the people who tell you that they can help you are almost never the ones to do so. It was always the people in the business that genuinely believed in me and never promised a thing, that were able to do more for me than anyone. I thank God for those people. In January of 2008, I was blessed to be able to work with producer Anthony Resta and engineer Karyadi Sutedja. Through our hard work and determination, “Lights” was recorded. It has been the best record I have done yet. In September of 2008 a company called North Star Media approached me. NSM is an entertainment company that deal with licensing music for television, movies and commercials. The thought of licensing my music for TV has always attracted me. My song “Pushover” being on “The Real World” on MTV last year, had brought that thought home even more. I signed with NSM in January of 2009. They have licensed my record “Lights” exclusively for 2 years. I am more excited about this than I have been about anything for a long time. Check them out @ www.northstarmedia.com. They are responsible for placing music in some of the most popular commercials and TV shows out there. I have stopped playing shows for the time being and am solely concentrating on writing and recording in my home studio. Some people think that the lack of shows means I am retiring my music career. It’s actually just the opposite. I feel like I am starting over. It’s a new chapter. It’s fresh it’s exciting. The genres I am writing in are different all the time. Could be a quirky song, a Beatle-esque pop song, or an acoustic melancholy song. I will play shows again without a doubt. But for now, I am working on enjoying music again, which I had lost for a while. Thanks for believing. -MP

IMAGINE THE FEELING OF KNOWING YOU "MADE IT" IN THE MUSIC INDUSTRY

How would that change your life? Or the life of those around you? I'll let you know a secret; one of the main reasons main stream artist's are so successful is they have a great marketing team on their side. That's why you sometimes see "unknown" artist's with way more talent remain an unknown. They don't have a good marketing team working for them.

Marketing is ESSENTIAL in any musicians career and without it they won't be getting too far. You can have the best song in the world, but if you don't have a professional team of marketers out there telling people about it. Nobodies ever gonna know about your great song.
