Mina May "Mina May" LP/CD 2008 10€ (shipment included / port inclus)
1st LP REVIEWS
‘From a lascivious exploration (‘Strange Hop’) to a persuasive outburst (‘El Dorado’) via the frenzied attraction of ‘At The Pixie Motel’, this is rough and passionate music that will send all heads spinning.’
(Longueur d'Ondes 45 / June 2008)
‘Contrasts here are cutting and stunning, although impeccably woven and totally justified. This is the kind of record that comes to prove French Pop has definitely freed itself from any hang-ups.’
(Come Unity magazine 19 / April 2008)
‘The band’s songs revive psychedelic rock flavours: where sad guitars get lost in a space filled with electric and electronic distortion, where feedback and keyboard licks build up walls of sound worthy of M83. On stage, Mina May turn their songs into explosive warfare.’
(Le Petit Bulletin 482 / April 2008)
A live band above all, Mina May accurately blends in electricity with electronic sounds or even folk music. It’s hard to write about a record that will stun everyone who’ll listen to it, a record riding its own wave. Serve it and breathe (empty your lungs, take a deep breath… As I said, I can’t possibly explain.)
("A decouvrir absolument" Webzine / May 2008 + one song on the ADA compilation vol. 14)
“Disarmingly simple, displaying rare spontaneity and violence”
(Magic !, ‘Film Noir’ demo reviewed in 2004)
‘Welcome to the Riviera-based band’s labyrinth, where emotion rules, from tightrope walking guitars to two-headed bass lines, from hypnotic keyboard licks to three-dimensional evasive vocals.
While still waiting for the unique, almighty sound by Mina May, what’s for sure is that something special is really happening here.’
(Var matin, French Riviera Newspaper, July 2007)
‘The band sometimes veers toward a dynamic, crystal-clear pop sound (…). The gentleness of the songs doesn’t prevent them from surrendering to well-chosen delightful sonic outbursts.’
(RockSound, ‘Film Noir’ demo reviewed in 2004)
‘Here comes, at last, a band that’s not overly conceited and who could make everybody in the French rock scene agree.’
