At moments raw and powerful, and at others delicate and soothing, two-part harmonies anchor Misner & Smith’s unique and compelling Americana music with an exceptional vocal blend. A connection to roots music is clearly embedded in their award-winning songwriting, and it is evident that the tradition of duets is truly alive and well in these two performers.
Sam Misner and Megan Smith began their musical collaboration after working together as actors on a production of Woody Guthrie’s American Song and immediately recognized a mutual love of Americana and Folk music. Since then the two have built a steady and loyal following in the San Francisco Bay Area. Described by Hicks With Sticks magazine as “a Bay Area treasure that needs to be shared” this hard working duo has recently played the mainstage at the San Francisco Folk Festival, El Cerrito Folk Festival, and will be headlining Berkeley’s famed Freight & Salvage in January of 2010. In Fall of 2009 they embarked on a very successful Southwest tour that took them out through Southern California, Arizona, New Mexico and out to Austin, TX.
Crafting original songs rich in meaning and texture, the duo’s sound is centered around unique vocal harmonies and evocative lyrics. In 2007, their song “Madeline (Paradise Cracked)” written by Sam Misner, won the West Coast Songwriters association’s Song of the Year competition. Sam Misner also won best song at two of 2009’s West Coast Songwriters North Bay regional competitions in Petaluma and Sebastopol with the song “Compose”. Misner & Smith have also been singled out internationally for the title track of their latest album, “Poor Player” with a 2009 nomination in the New Folk category by the Just Plain Folks music organization.
Misner & Smith will lift you up with music that rarwriter.com called “truly inspired vocalizing”. Drawing from the traditions of Americana, Folk, and Bluegrass music, Misner & Smith use powerful storytelling and weave it together with their own brand of American Music full of longing and hope.
It was really nice to meet you in Old Sacramento at the "treasure hunt thing" when I heard you play and sing just briefly. I was hooked and now that I've heard more I am looking forward to seeing you guys live. thanks again!!!!!
Just stumbled over your tracks on here ... wonderful as ever and so damn lively and fresh! We really must put a show together some day ... our depressive, dark, bitter and twisted stuff up against your stuff would give an audience such a mixed set of feelings to go home with.
Hope you're both well and happy, and we really do hope to share the stage one day ... if not over there ... over here!
Yoga monk-musician Dada Nabhaniilananda of Los Altos and songwriter Steve Taylor-Ramírez of Berkeley will do a concert together next week. Nabhaniilananda, who plays spiritual eco-folk in a style evoking Cat Stevens and Donovan, and Taylor-Ramírez, who describes his musical style as socially conscious, Latin-infused neo-folk, will play at 7 p.m. June 7 at La Peña Cultural Center in Berkeley.
The center is located at 3105 Shattuck Ave. Tickets are $14 in advance, $16 at the door. For tickets and information go to www.lapena.org/event/1113 or call 510-849-2568.

Hi there, Thanks for adding me to your list of friends. I like your stuff a lot - the songs and the singing. You were recommended to me by my son Toby -(The Wilson half of Breeze & Wilson) He's a good judge. Maybe you'll get to the UK one day and we can all meet up. In the mean time I'd like you to listen to some of my songs. I think we have aims and background in common. I'm no actor but have written a few plays in my time one of which was put on in San francisco some years back. Keep up the good work

Many thanks for encouraging us to think bigger than the UK ...
Still hoping we can sort a trip out to you both sometime ... we both think a shared gig would be just wonderful.
