Model 101 is a brutal and grooving metal band from the Netherlands. Their play consists of brutal bashing riffs, enchanting melodies, rhythmic joking and blood-curling screams and grunts. The band has just reached its full strength with the addition of a new vocalist and a second guitarist, and has just finished their first official demo. Now the search for a potential label and a shitload of concerts begins.
The band came into existence in early 2002, with the idea to form a nu-metal band. As the years passed the music gradually intensified, but still remained nu-metal. At this point the band held two vocalists, one rapping/screaming the other singing/screaming. When the decision within the band was made to really find out how far we could drive this thing we made the tough decision to eject a founding member from the bands ranks, being the rapping vocalist. Not long after the second vocalist decided to call it quits, and the band was without vocals for about six months. Within this time the decision was also made to drop the nu-metal sound and focus on a more serious metal attack, with some rhythmic interesting passages. Also some electronics were purchased and used for samples, which truly enriched the sound of the band. The entire nu-metal act was dropped, and more and more old songs were replaced with new material.
In February the band asked vocalist Remco van den Hurk to try out. The band has know him for many years from his death metal band Infuriate, and recently also from the new formed thrash metal outfit State:Chaos, with ex-members of Desensitised and Callenish Circle. This proved to be a superb move, as Remco’s vocals matched the music perfectly. After two or three rehearsals the band made its first live appearance with Remco, which was a huge success.
Still the search went on for a second guitarist, so Model 101 found a sweet girl from Utrecht named Lukie Stalenhoef to come and try out. She proved to be talented in playing and very motivated, so she was added to the ranks shortly after. Her stage debut was also a success, giving the band an even heavier and thick sound. The band now basically still searches for a person willing to handle electronics, but for now guitarist Peter Geraedts manages quite well.
Model 101 has found the sound they want to produce, and the people willing to create it. Brutal, tight, rhythmic metal with room for melody without sounding emo. For fans of bands like Textures, Tool, Machine Head, Meshuggah, Mastodon and Slipknot.
