| 風格近似 | Monkeyrush’s new CD, the “Stay In Bed E.P.” was recorded by the new line-up in the autumn of 2008 at Metway studios, Brighton. This great recording shows Monkeyrush at they’re finest. From the incredibly catchy stomp and kitchen-sink drama of the title song, through to the sublime groove of “Post To Post” and the rocking angst of “Never To Late” Monkeyrush have weaved their many styles and influences into a coherent and purposeful whole whilst retaining the energy of the band’s excellent live performances.
Here is the review from our Bearded debut;
On the campfire stage, Monkeyrush play in driving rain, but brighten it and inspire dancing in the mud with truly individual guitar pop ska. It’s catchy, sometimes political, but pace-y and intelligent. Playing in difficult conditions their quality still stands out strongly and they are well worth further investigation.(By Suzanne Knight)
Monkeyrush mix a variety of influences and experience to create a funky, punky and down right catchy mix of melodic verses and huge choruses.You can tell the band put their personalities into the music and it’s an infectious mix and one that I am looking forward to catching again.(crumbs in the butter)
Fluffy powerpop of the pinkest kind, sweet as sacharine and addictive as nicotine, haven't booked a band like this since Andrea Wilde, there's elements of our much missed Bonsai Kittens here too. This is stay in bed day! (2 Bob Promotions)
It is to the immense credit of the next band, Monkeyrush, that they can follow that. Led by bubbly Fil Planet, this Bromley contingent lay down some infectious ska/skank grooves that we can all get behind. She has a great voice and because she and her band are seasoned performers it is no wonder that they are pretty damn good at what they do. We jump up and down as much as is reasonable.
I leave with my mind blown. (Call of the Wyld)
"like the result of a one night stand between Pulp and Bloc Party" (www.thisisfakediy.com)
Clash + Bowie + The Sex Pistols + Led Zeppelin
"Wriggle combines a clipped, cockney delivery (think Flowered Up), Peaches-style heavy breathing overdubs, a jaunty ska rhythm and a Posies-style outro!" (www.3ammagazine.com)
With this demo Monkeyrush have shown that they're a force to be reckoned with. Watch the Monkeyrush infection spread - I'm off now to apply some Calamine lotion - I've got the Monkeyrush itch! Clever, clever stuff!!(Toxicpete)
This band have an energy which chews you up, spits you out and leaves you crying out for more…(Guitarmagazine)
The south London band are in the territory of general modern paranoia and creeping uncertainty. Grim observations are bundled up in slick grooves, soulful harmonics and flashy rock shapes. Sort of Stiff Little Chic....(Overplay)
"The Untitled Dr Mezza" takes the slow train to hyperspace. The snidey cockney vocals are still there, but this time they're accompanied by loose-limbed dub interspersed with mini guitar tornadoes. "I don't wanna come down", chime Tones and Fil. As Pink Floyd go head-on with X-Ray Spex to scatter prettily toxic moondust, this makes for a formidable calling card.
With their distinctive and original style and sound, Monkeyrush deserve to make it in the wider marketplace. Theirs is a whole new thing - I can't think of any other outfit that sound anything like Monkeyrush.
It's a sound that's not too common right now and it suggests that, given the freedom of a whole CD, Monkeyrush could make and confound the wider world.
