Formed in early 2005 by four friends (Jon Pharr, Jace Joyce, Jordan Leeper, and Justin Leeper) from Callisburg Tx, Mourning Fury has been steadily climbing that long ladder towards a common dream. "I've wanted to play music for as long as I can remember," says Justin."I'm just lucky that three of my best friends had the same idea at the same time." "Yeah, most of the time we all get along so well that we forget we're preparing for what will hopefully be a full-time job for us one day," Jon says. The next year brought about a vast evolution and maturation of Mourning Fury's sound. Eventually, they knew that they would have to find a vocalist that matched the caliber of band that they had become. Jordan explains,"When you live in a city like Callisburg, it's hard to find a good metal vocalist. Country music is really popular here; most of the bars here are filled with people in cowboy hats and tight Wranglers jeans." In June of 2005, Chris Glenn joined the band and together they introduced Mourning Fury to the North Texas live circuit and quickly helped establish a healthy following in their hometown. Chris parted ways with them the next year, leaving the vocalist slot open once again. Finally, the following October the guys finally got a break when Chase Ditto answered an online add asking for an audition. "I had actually seen the Fury live before and was impressed by their stage presence," says Chase, "And when I looked up their website, they had a headline looking for a vocalist. I'll admit, I was hesitant to join at first since I live a little more than an hour and a half away from them. But when I drove out for that first audition, I got hooked."
From the bands inception, the foundation of Mourning Fury has been firmly planted in the artistic expression of its members. With the additon of Chase Ditto, the writing process picked up again and continued to evolve. Each song is meticulously crafted to reflect their unique approach to metal music; weaving an aural tapestry of explosive riffs and melodic interludes, intense vocals opposite gutteral screams, and a rhythm section that resonates deep within your bones. "When I write a song, I like to think of it as a body of water." Jon says, "It's a stream that runs into a river that runs into the ocean, with highs and lows, calm and chaos, but all connected in some way." Listening, however, is only part of the experience; seeing the band's high energy live show gives you a whole new appreciation for the passion they put into their music. "We thrive on a stage." Jon says, "We hold nothing back and will do anything to entertain an audience." So far both elements have combined to form a potent blend that has won over the local scene in their hometown and already made a mark on the surrounding cities.
The future is always uncertain, but the now five brothers in Mourning Fury are forging ahead with they're hearts on overdrive and fingers crossed. "I think that we are much more focused band than we were even six months ago [in the summer of 2006]." Jace says. Jon agrees, "We have a much better idea of exactly where we want to be in six months, a year, five years from now." "We've done so much in the short time that I've been in the band and I'm really excited to see where it will take us this coming year." says Chase. "I know that we have talent, and I know that we are fiercely driven, but there are still a huge number of artists out there who have those things. In the end it's really up to the people that listen to the music and see us live to make us or break us." And so far the response has all been on the same page. With shows on the same bill as national acts like Burn in Silence, Year of Desolation, Thine Eyes Bleed, Jacknife, Dryline, and A Dozen Furies under their belt, a theme song written for the pro-wrestler Colossus, and an ever-increasing crowd showing up to live performances throughout Texas, Mourning Fury are well on their way to reaching that dream.
