The Moving Oos began in 2005 as a collaboration between some of
Trondheim, Norway's most accomplished musicians, and consists of
members and ex-members of bands such as The International Tussler
Society, Cadillac, Nullskattesnylterne, Dadafon and New Violators. Their sound is
ultimately a bluesy retro-soul - sometimes sleazy and sometimes funky
rock 'n' roll, in the vein of The Faces, MC5's, Humble Pie and early
Rolling Stones. Long before the band entered Athletic Sound Studios to
record their debut album in late 2006, Moving Oos had already made a
huge impact as one of the best new live bands on the Norwegian club
circut. Their performance at 2007's By:Larm (the Norwegian equivalent
to CMJ or In the City) was described as " An explosive soulparty from
one of the best live acts, if not the best, then definitely the most
fun" (Adresseavisa). Their debut album "Peace and Love" (Kong Tiki,
2007) was released in February 2007, and the first single "Romancer"
went straight into heavy rotation on Norway's flagship rock radio P3's
A-list, and stayed there for 15 solid weeks. Just one more week and the
stations all-time record would have been broken. Following awesome
album reviews in the press, the second single "Minister of Love" spent
a whopping 10 weeks on the same A-list. Even America's favorite
reviewers Pitchfork hailed the album as " a brain-teaser of a good
record". The festival summer of 2007 turned out to be the busiest ever,
with the band playing all the majors: Hovefestivalen, Storåsfestivalen,
Stavern, Pulpit, Namsos, Vika and Øyafestivalen to name a few, and made
several appearances on TV.
The year has been magnificent, and is far from over for Moving Oos. In
September they were nominated for two Alarm Awards (second only to the
Norwegian Grammy Awards), in the categories "Best Song" - for
"Romancer" and "Best New Artist". We are proud and excited to report
that the band took home the award for "Best New Artist".
"If it had been 1971, the supergroup Moving Oos would have become a
worldwide rock fan's favorite- this debut record is that good" -
Panorama Magazine, Feb 2007.
PRESS RELEASE January 2007
On Feb 26th `07, Moving Oos release their debut album, "Peace & Love", through indielabel Kong Tiki Records and Playground Records. Recorded and mixed at Athletic Sound in Halden, Norway, in May 2006, with legendary engineer Kai Andersen
Moving Oos started as a collaboration project between some of Trondheim's most accomplished musicians in 2005. Since then, they've
grown to be one of the most standout and hyped rock outfits in Norway.
Fronted by the fresh new vocal talent Frankie Castello and backed by the
beautiful harmonizing soul sisters Norma Lee and Lynn Gordon,
the power house rhythms of bass player Roger Houston and
drummer Sony Cute, percussionist Tony Cabaza, "keys-wizard" Lesley
Hammond and the guitars of songwriter Jimmy Kruder.
The stripped-down radio single track "Romancer" is a soul-rock ballad who`s ancestors might be The Faces, and the pure energy of the track "Natural Man" makes The MC5`s "Ramblin Rose" sound like muzak. The Moving Oos have emerged with a refreshing and colourful new side
to high quality old fashioned Rock`n Roll. In order to capture the essence of the music of the Moving Oos, most of the Peace & Love album was recorded live, and all recording and mixing was done in good old-fashioned quality analogue. What separates this band from other contemporary bands today is their ability to take music to another
level in a live-setting. The raw power and live energy of the Moving Oos is an act that cannot be missed in 2007. The band will be touring relentlessly in both Norway and Europe,
supporting the debut album.
