Murder-Suicide Pact formed in Oct 1997 when Bob Suren (vocalist of Failure Face) called Joe Kiser, the guitarist from Slap Of
Reality and asked if he wanted to start a new band. Both bands were broken up and both guys were restless. The original line up
included John Tucci from E.B.S. on drums. After working out a few songs, Kevin Shanahan from Failure Face joined on bass.
This line up wrote 20 songs and scheduled studio time to record an album.
Shortly before recording, Kevin moved to second guitar, John moved to bass and B fom End Of The Century Party became the
new drummer. This line up entered Audio Lab Studios in Tampa a month later to record those first 20 songs with producer Greg
Marchack. Sixteen songs became the "S/T" LP/CD, released by Burrito Records in the summer of 1998. The remaining four
songs were released as the "Lobotomy Kit" 7" on Burrito Records in late 1998.
Shortly after the album's release, John left the band and B moved to California to attend college. Kevin switched back to bass,
but the hunt for a new drummer didn't pan out and the band went into hibernation for the first of many times.
In late Jan 1999, Bob asked Brian Roberts (guitarist of Failure Face and drummer of Scrotum Grinder) if he would learn a few
songs so that MSP could play a short set on Bob's 30th birthday party. It was only supposed to be one show, but this version of
the band has been playing on and off since Feb. 7, 1999.
In the spring of 2003, it seemed the band would break up for good, but an offer to tour Brazil was too good to turn down. Brian
was unable to tour, so his replacement drummer was Eric from New Bruises. Eric joined the the late summer of 2003 and stayed
with the band until Brian rejoined to play Bob's 35th birthday party, Feb. 7, 2004.
In March 2005, MSP played what they vowed to be their final show at Bob's record store, Sound Idea, on the occasion of the
store's 10th anniversary party. Nobody believed that this would actually be the end of the band, as they had played several
"final" shows, but Bob was serious about ending it then and there.
Three years passed. Kevin moved to North Carolina. Joe, Bob and Brian started other bands. Bob started planning for Sound
Idea's 13th anniversary party, booking bands from around the country for the special event. He thought it might be fun to do a
top secret MSP reunuion show. He called Kevin in North Carolina. Kevin agreed, so practice was scheduled for March 6, 2008 --
their first in three years. Kevin blew off practice, but Joe, Bob and Brian worked out a short but tight set. Kevin arrived a couple
of hours before show time, looked at the set list and said he could do it. The secret was well-kept. MSP squeezed in between
War/System from the UK and F to play one of their finest sets ever. Both crowd and band were elated.
Once again, the band thought it would be just a one-off show, but since Kevin was still in town, they played another set three
days later at a house in Tampa with War/system. After their set, War/System asked MSP to consider a trip to the UK. And like
the offer to tour Brazil in 2003, this was too good to turn down. So, MSP is back from the dead again, writing new songs, playing
local shows and saving up for a November 2008 tour of the UK.
