With already established origins in first industrial, then techno,
Grey created the Murkbox moniker in 1996.
The sound is essentially various forms of electronic
experimentalism usually drenched in distortion. More often than not,
Murkbox is beat oriented; overdriven electro, breakbeats, and glitch
peppered with classic horror and sci-fi samples.
Murkbox also has forays
into ambient noisescapes well illustrated by recent Bad Taste release
Binary Drift. A blending of all these elements is the usual fare for
a live Murkbox performance.
Primary distribution of the the music has been handled by Bad Taste.
However, in recent years there have also been associations with lokol as well as Hipnotik Records based in France.

The kind where the sets are stark white with oddly shaped chairs in bright colors that don’t look the least bit comfortable, where the cars fly but are roughly the size of pontoons, where people get their meals by speaking into little boxes and out pops a plate with a small, unnaturally colored cube on it? Yes, it all looks futuristic and ultra-modern but it still, without a doubt, is stamped with the impression of an era long past – and it’s still really cool.
