Bio

MX MACHINE is a band from long ago. Formed in 1986 by Diego Negrete. After graduating from High School in 1984 and years playing with childhood friends Mitch Rellas and Danny Anaya it was time to form a genuine band. The first concept was "MX". It was brought to the attention of Mitch after he himself graduated in 1986. It was his idea that we wait for him to finish High School before launching a full all out metal band. Fresh from the Armored Saint camp Rellas and Negrete put the music together rather fast. But we needed a singer. Late one night in Giottos' studio along the tracks we found our man. Lee Kaiser. He wasn't a singer at all. He was drunk and we were playing Motorhead's'"The Hammer" and Lee stood up and said.."Hey I wanna sing that song!" The rest is History... so to say!

At the time we formed we knew Danny Anaya was unavailable as a drummer even though he was "Our Drummer". His career at the time was pounding the skins for LA's notorious ABBATIOR. To fill in on drums for the time being was Jr High friend Johnny Ayala. He was available for the demo sessions and helped us get out of the gate. We quickly wrote a few songs and made a demo with Metal Producer Bill Metoyer. The recording was a sonic masterpiece and was soon delivered to the local labels. "Kick You In The Face" and "Fuck The Neighbors" were born....

The title track of the recording "Our First Demo, Ay!" was a song called "Fatal Mistake" It never made it into the line-up but was the song that got us signed to RESTLESS/Enigma Records in 1987 after only 3 shows in Hollywood we took the deal. In fact MX's First show was at the Whiskey A Go Go in Hollywood. A sold out event and an absolute party! MX was the first band in History to throw a "BEFORE PARTY!" Our crowd showed up bombed from The Kegger we had at Eric Beauchamps and All Hell Broke Loose (Eric is now serving 3 consecutive life sentences) Johnny and Dan were NOT sitting on drums that night. Our drummer Dujour was a master himself Sam Monarez from El Sereno. The Kids played like Mitch Mitchell and was all over the kit! Off The hook...Sam was in but wanted out. He saw how Danny was a member at heart (Danny was at the show holding Sam's Kick drum as he played like Mad that night. A week later Sam walked to Dan's house and handed the sticks over to Danny..... It was complete.

How did we get the name MX MACHINE? Well, that's an interesting. You see, it wasn't even a year before we were approached by a gal Sharon Murley from RESTLESS RECORDS. She joined the party and soon became good friends and was passionate about getting us signed to RESTLESS. Curtis Beck ran the joint and was instrumental in the deal. It was 1987 and we were flying high on the adrenalin of the times. "Big Record Deals". RESTLESS was a smaller label under the wings of ENIGMA RECORDS run the the Hein Brothers. At the time ENIGMA was busy with bands such as POISON and STRYPER. We knew we had an awesome band and that if we held out we'd get offers left and right. "After all, our shows are selling out!". Patience Smasience. we began negotiating with RESTLESS. They offered a fair deal and it was up to us to fulfill our own destiny... We signed, threw a party, Got laid and Puked. We now had a Record Deal. A sweet publishing deal and cash advance. A sweet budget to record... And a press release. "MX" was an International Act. And with it came 'National' Press. And with that...came Georgia based band "MX".

Yes Siree Bob! I was awoken and thrown out of bed one morning with a call from headquarters. It was Sharon. The label had received a letter from a lawyer down south. Seems, Atlanta, Georgia had an "MX" of their own. AND, They owned the Name. Yesiree Bob, I was in shock. I picked up the phone and started making calls. I let the guys in on the news. Called our producer Joey Vera and began brainstorming. What the fuck are we gonna do? We were nameless and just about to enter the studio to record our first record.

After a day of thinking, pounding the walls and getting advice and grief from RESTLESS legal and my own lawyer, I came up with a plan. Practice was called. We had no intention of changing our name. It had become who we were. And...We were fucking signed!. Screw those guys! Here's what we did. We sent a note through legal dept. We asked, "Hey, If we "altered" the name a bit, could we work out a deal to keep "MX" in our name?". We then sat back, bit our nails and waited for a reply. It came back with positive results...sort of. MX Georgia was interested in hearing us and what we sounded like before rendering a decision. "Holy Shit!"... There's a chance? But wait..They wanted to "Hear Us"...and we were a pretty heavy rocking band. "There's no chance they'd let us keep the name after hearing what we sound like!", so we thought. But then we realized, The balls' in our court. So here's what we did...We made a recording. They wanted to hear what we sounded like. So we let them. In fact, we sent them 3 songs. # songs we wrote arranged and recorded in 30 minutes! Basically...Shit. We sent them the certified copy and bit our fingernails waiting for a response. They bought it. After hearing the tape of our ridiculous songs they agreed to allow us to attach the word "Machine" to the name.. and thus MX MACHINE was born.
