BIG CHEESE MAGAZINE: Pulverizing all palpable forms of music into a melodic, seductive beat, My Passion are on the path to big things with a frighteningly dedicated nationwide fanbase, as well as being reknowned for frantic, energetic live shows. At once harmonius and full of punk vitriol, the effect is alike to sonic fuckery - leaving you with a pounding heart, a dry mouth and craving more, much more. It would be far too easy of course to compare this bright young band to the great such as AFI or an electrified Billy Talent, because quite simply, this band is something very unique and has to be seen to be believed."
KERRANG!: "Their ridiculous Tim Burton hair, over tight black clothes and slack jawed grimaces would and should go down a storm with the young ones."
DISORDER: "My Passion are a band that behind our backs have kept plugging away and quietly got themselves a 60,000+ strong army of fans without a single piece of mainstream media, without a nod from the Radio 1 Gods, without even a sniff of a music paper giving them a journalistic blow job. It's at this point you realise that you've been very shit at your job for failing to notice thi mini-eyeliner revolution happening and must thus apologise. 2009 looks like being a promising year for the band we almost forgot how much we liked."
ROCK SOUND: "Edward Scissorhand lookalikes My Passion win over a skeptical crowd at the Barfly with their punk/ nu rave mash ups!"
BUBBLEGUM SLUT: "BooMan's synth/ guitar stand off showcases the biggest sound they've acheived yet. With great bombastic beats and Laurence yelling "Disco!" before the final high-camp keyboard showdown My Passion are sounding to be on fine form".
NETSTAR: "Disco punk tune guaranteed to set the dancefloor ablaze. Sounds something like Tim Burton doing naughty things to AFI in a fetish club....
Fucking PRICELESS."
SHOCKED SPECTATOR: "Live My Passion sound like what Marilyn Manson would have sounded like had he launched in the present day."
R*E*P*E*A*T: "like Billy Talent gone electro"
INFUZED: "Hot in the dolls house opens with a rip roaring, electrifying sizzle that immediately gets your knickers in a hyped up frenzy. This is the new beginnings of modern music packed with rhythms and beats that will even rattle the bones of your dear ancestors and get them grinding on the dance floor! This never for one moment leaves you disappointed, only ever too eager to dance dance dance and blow the roof off the joint. I LOVE it!"
HERTS + ESSEX MUSIC ZINE: "Like a British Blood Brothers, but perhaps angrier in places and certainly a lot more fashion conscious, guitars, drenched in feedback, zig-zag violently against a horror-show disco synthesizer backed by clattering, bone crunching drums. My Passion have the same energy as Test-Icicles' early demos, but much more polished, branching between metal and disco in the way that it was thought that only Test-Icicles could.
Test-Icicles failed for being far too experimental for many people's delicate ears, but one thing they outlined was that pop music doesn't fit in a neat little box and My Passion are their bastard love child, with all the undesirable qualities bred out."
ORGAN MAG: "Desire drenched infectiously stylish clever eye-liner indie new wave new romantic Roxy bouncy lip-glossed spiky-sweet pop boys after-dark manic street preachers who know they can dance- pure pop, switch this, lavender kiss - I think you get the picture, they do it with style."
THE DOSE: "The best teenage nosferatu anthems we've heard... give this to anyone who has a touch of rebelling sensitivity and he'll tear the whole building down. Crying"
WORKING TITLE: "With far out hair that makes old ladies cross the street, growling guitars, synths reminiscent of your Super Nintendo on a bad day and the entire Boots supply of eyeliner, My Passion are five guys armed from the balls up with guitar, ,bass, synth and drum, playing trashy riffs that make you want to get your kit off and actually dance. It sounds like you're circular sawing your Gameboy, a blatant aural orgasm."
UNEARTHED TREASURES: "New romantic style hair and make up splash their once angelic faces to reveal a sinister alter-ego. Big riffs fly out of the guitars like bullets from an out of control machine gun, synthesiser loops and buzz around the background like a hornet on ecstasy while Laurence Rene's voice soothes and then spits acidic verses from the frontline."
AlLL SYNTH POP: "It's raw, energetic, and honest. It's all here, in your face, take it or leave it. It's meant to be rough and loud and should certainly strike an instant response on the dancefloor."
VANITY PROJECT: "Heavy eye shadow, shirts and ties - high style, but not without substance, chiming with synth pop fettle, chugging with played-down metal riffs and big, brash, confident, arrogant choruses."
UK FUSION: "Pretty soon no doubt they'll become your passion as well as mine."
DRIPFED: "Like a strange war between The Rasmus and Erasure. But Good!"
SOUNDWAVES: "Like the Bravery, but with more grit and better hair!"
UK MUSIC SEARCH: Sounding like a messy punch up between the Lostprophets, The Automatic and Duran Duran, wiry pop music with its roots in the eighties but its sights set firmly on the future.
Their songs contain all the infectious hooks, snappy guitar lines and ice cool synth stabs you could ever wish for. My Passion make out like Franz Ferdinand on speed and locked in a room full of synthesisers and John Hughes films.
About MY PASSION-FREE TEES AT WWW.MYPASSIONFASHION.CO.UK
MY PASSION are Laurence René (Vocals, Guitar), Jonathan Gaskin (Drums, Vocals, Electronics), John Be (Guitar) and Simon Rowlands (Bass, Synth), four young men with a fearless, rebellious intention, DIY ethics and a genre-smashing electronic induced metallic punk sound. My Passion's story has only just begun yet there is enough to write a gripping tale of adventure and immortality here....
My Passion's world so far has consisted of endless touring and promotion. The story started in the unlikely leafy Herts suburbs of London back in 2006, Childhood friends with a shared vision and determination, Intent on creating a huge sound and the theatre to match that hit the audience hard and either had you screaming for more or running in fear. Word quickly spread as they took their energetic show on the road, racking up almost 500 shows at the last count! Crowds swelled due to word of mouth about the exciting live performance, as well as with those who discovered My Passion online via their Myspace page (www.myspace.com/mypassion) run by the band themselves with almost 70,000 friends and plays of well over a Million.
The band met producer John Mitchell (Enter Shikari, You Me At Six, Funeral For a Friend) at one of their headline shows. Falling in love with the production and the chemistry between the band and producer Mitchell they went on to record their debut album with him. In their hideout in Reading John & the band worked for a month capturing a collection of killer tracks entitled “Corporate Flesh Party” which was dropped at the end of June(UK). The band have just signed a 3 album deal with Dutch label Mascot Records on the strength of their live show and their debut album.
My Passion have shared the bill with bands as varied as The Automatic, The Faint and Lacuna Coil, and supported Jeffree Star on his debut UK tour, being asked to join him via a myspace message (what else!). The band’s biggest tour to date was as special guests on Kill Hannah’s 36 date tour of the UK and Europe, where an early morning exploding tour bus in the Swiss Alps saw the band lose everything they owned apart from their instruments and their enthusiasm. Even this high drama and cheating of death didn’t stop the tour! A personal recommendation from Kill Hannah led to My Passion joining the sold out Innerpartysystem UK tour early in 2009, then a text message out of the blue from Jeffree Star saw them joining him once more on his last UK tour.
This year has seen My Passion hit the festival circuit in a big way, with slots at Liverpool Sound City, Camden Crawl, Download, T In The Park and the Underage Festival. Most recently, My Passion completed a 30 date UK headline tour to celebrate the release of Corporate Flesh Party, starting the tour playing on a rooftop in Central London, and ending it by playing to 500 believers from a stage that they built in a church in Camden town!
Alongside finding the time to book their ferocious tour schedule, My Passion have been busy developing their own merchandising brand “My Passion Fashion”, a hugely successful range which has sold in the thousands online and at sold out shows all around Europe. One look at the band’s myspace shows that everyone in their top friends is proudly displaying their My Passion Fashion!
2009 has seen My Passion exploding into the wider world and the consciousness of new music lovers, grabbing a top 3 spot in the Kerrang best of 2008 end of year Readers Poll, Number one spot in Rock Sound magazine and also in the Top 10 MySpace Ones to Watch in 2009! The band has since been featured heavily in Kerrang! Magazine including a poster before the debut album had even been released and secured a covermount CD spot and feature in Rock Sound, as well as articles in Big Cheese and Disorder magazine. Some huge brands have jumping on board to endorse and support a band doing everything for themselves including Red Bull, Hughes & Kettner, Hartke, Stagg, and Cort Guitars.
Things are moving from strength to strength for My Passion, with a nomination for Best British Newcomer at the 2009 Kerrang! Awards, a new single set for release in August, which is already playing on Kerrang! Television. and a string of European dates lined up, including their debut European festival, Stagedive Day Out in Sweden in late August.
The huge popularity of the music, merchandise and My Passion’s determination to work till they drop has meant they have been able to fund tours and gain a rabidly addicted fan base without any outside backing, through their own hard work built upon the key ingredient that gave the band their name, (my) Passion. The music may not scream punk in a traditional sense but all the rebellious intentions and an attitude to follow their own path, driven by pure desire and the thrill of engulfing fans inside their world, exciting those who see and hear it will soon make My Passion one of those unconventional success stories that arise once in a generation to win the hearts of millions.
