   About My Were They
.. ..

My Were They is a three piece rock music combo based out of Chicago. They have been on the radio, played at south by southwest, played a lot of shows, and self released a record called Epigrams and Interludes a few years ago. Shortly thereafter, a record called After They Threw Me In the River and Before I Drowned finally saw the light of day. A new EP, entitled Four Songs, is available here.

"Singer/guitarist Michael D gives My Were They a haunting yet familiar vocal presence reminiscent of David Bowie or The Psychedelic Furs’ Richard Butler. He’s also a versatile songwriter who composed all the material on the recently released After They Threw Me In The River And Before I Drowned, a follow-up to their 2005 full-length debut Epigrams And Interludes. The band, who formed around 2003, sound like the Psychedelic Furs on melodic songs like “Afterglow” and evoke vintage U.K. shoegazer groups via slower, shimmering arrangements, though “Sixteen” has more of a dance-club beat."
-Illinois Entertainer best of '07

"…Drowned packs a bit more of a punch than its predecessor. The propulsive beats in ‘Big House' and 'Sixteen' aren't for rainy alleys, but music venues crowded with sweaty, undulating bodies..."
The Onion AV Club

"Daly’s understated vocals provide a nice complement to the often-urgent percussion provided by Chappell and August. Tracks like ‘Afterglow’ and ‘Big House’ serve as sing-along dance rock, while ‘Rhodes One’ and ‘Rhodes Two’ are calm instrumental interludes that punctuate the flow of the album."
-UR Chicago

"The tracks on this album stand out, hooks, catches, the array of instruments just kinda coming from every direction..."
-Disappear Here

"...pulsing, tangled grooves and luminous vocals..."
-The Tripwire

“This record [Epigrams & Interludes] is really something that is too good to be A. a debut album, and B. self produced on a budget consisting of bits of string. Somehow this Chicago four piece has remained relatively obscure, playing out only sporadically while putting together one of the best albums to come out this year. The songs range from tense to bombastic to delicate, showing some influence from Gang of Four or bends-era Radiohead. Fans of Franz Ferdinand and Bloc Party will drool. My Were They are the best Chicago band you've never heard of. Highly, highly recommended.”
-Reckless Records, Chicago

My Were They= (Interpol) - (the experience and sophomoric qualities) + (more clever guitar rythyms x very noticeable potential). Still don't get the picture? I give up. Just listen to some mp3's of them. I've listened to this little record [after they threw me in the river...] a couple of times now and I can see a band forming here, I mean like a band that will be in the Hot Indie Rock section of iTunes...
-Sometimes in the Fall

Actually, the drummer was the most talented member of the band. He played with a bizarre clattering, scattered style that could get really heavy when necessary. Brilliant drumming!
-EvilSponge

...they spend a lot of time trying to convince you of their instrumental talent by putting together long strings of JUST music without vocals...
-Bring Me Up

My Were They is a Chicago based band that can bring brooding, mood rock, but can also, and more successfully, bring a solid style of up-tempo power pop...

I really need to come see you guys. Sadly, I'm in Tennessee. Argh.

"The One With The Votes" is terribly addictive.

Actually, we do have a client with 2 cats that we have to take out on leashes. One of their old cats got hit by a car so now they only let their cats out on leashes. So the answer to your question is... Yes, we do walk cats!

As far as Moscow virtuosi go, I like Bartok. ..
But I'm more familiar with schoenberg's work than webern's.

To tell the truth, I'm interested in knowing why you friend requested me... regardless, thanks for seeking out my friendship.
