nairobi
nairobi es la herencia de 2 bandas claves para el dub local, Martyn & the Deer Hunters y Ganja Pfeife. con partículas de aquellas bandas y con nuevos integrantes, este dub combo logró la solidez y un repertorio con sonrisa asegurada. la unión de Bastard (Angry Surfers, Baltimore in love, Amoeba) e Ivi (Jack Valenti, Martyn & the Deer Hunters, Crazy Feeling) genreó el espacio para que naciera Ganja Pfeife que luego de un par de coletazos y cambios de formación, dio lugar a que ellos conozcan a Chivi (Sierra Sonora), multi instrumentista de origen mejicano residente en Buenos Aires. al servicio del dub y con una clara impronta de apertura latina (al menos en lo humano) el trío supo abrirse un espacio y cargar en sus espaldas lo más negro del género.
sumando al dub el ragga, el hip hop, la cumbia, el trip hop, la banda busca encontrar sus propios parámetros y un sonido particular, propio de su método de trabajo y en busca de una música que aquí en argentina poca vida tiene.
nairobi es un proyecto orientado a las raíces del dub. reversionando grandes temas del cancionero tradicional jamaiquino y haciendo un aporte propio al género, la banda crea climas y sostiene intensos ritmos con aire chamánico.
desde el sonido nairobi busca hacer un aporte auténtico y separarse de los estándares del reggae local, generando así una confluencia de elementos cuya mezcla resulta en un reggae fresco y profundo, muy rítmico y a la vez psicodélico.
la banda se formó en agosto de 2007 y rápidamente se lanzó a los escenarios y al estudio, registrando en noviembre de ese mismo año las pistas del LP que están próximos a editar. de formación internacional (bajista mejicano y dj chileno), la banda tiene como premisa la inclusión de músicos de otras bandas y vertientes musicales, aventura que los lleva a buscar editar un disco doble, uno conteniendo sus versiones originales en clave dub y otro con versiones cantadas de esos temas. Ya cuentan con la participación de Princesa, Marcianos Crew, Zonora Point (Chile), Cizifi et Puzz Mama (Francia), Rancho MC y más...
En una escena en la que pocas bandas del género hay, nairobi es el niño rebelde, partiendo de la tradición para animarse a hacerla pedazos, aprendiendo para luego olvidar. sin buscar un lugar propio dentro del reggae y sin abogar por nadie, nairobi se entrega al trance del ritmo, de las pequeñas variaciones que ofrece la repetición, a las mil y una capas de delay y reverb y siempre a un mensaje de unidad, de conciencia sobre el intrínseco orden universal que nos hace a todos parte del mismo organismo vivo.----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

nairobi is the mutation of two key dub bands for the local scene, Martyn & The Deer Hunters and Ganja Pfeife. conformed by particles of this bands and with new members, this dub combo has achieved a mature and solid state, providing a deep and heavy dub sound. the bond between Bastard (Angry Surfers, Baltimore in Love, Amoeba, Ganja Pfeife) and Ivi (Jack Valenti, Ombú, Crazy Feeling, Martyn & The Deer Hunters, Ganja Pfeife) prepared the terrain for this new and refreshed approach to dub. Struggling with Ganja Pfeife for about a year, some changes needed to be applied and a new idea, a new twist to the sound and attitude created what we proudly now call Nairobi. Rat (Crazy Feeling, Roche, Jardin de Heno, Martyn & The Deer Hunters) and Martyn (Buscando la Armonía, Martyn & The Deer Hunters, Ganja Pfeife) re-joined the project and gave the band firmness and rythm. Getting to know Chivi (a mexican multi-instrumentist/film- maker who is living in Buenos Aires) was the key note to this band, creating for the first time this fresh and new sound that the band was needing. recently the band has incorporated the young DJ Baladi from Chile in scratching and sampling, giving new airs to the band once again, organically finding its balance to reach a bright but powerfull chamanic dub. being influenced by dub, dancehall, hip hop, cumbia, and noise, the band creates it..s own parameters and a very personal sound, consecuence of their own recording method and in the search of a style that hasn..t been yet adressed in argentina.
nairobi is a project that pay tribute to the originators of dub. making versions of some of the greates jamaican dub classics and bringing in some bright new elements and a fresh sense of belonging. this band creates intense chamanic rythms with a polished trashy modern woody sound. creating a new approach to this gender, nairobi has concieved a subtle mix, natural and psicodelic, but allways in a very rythmic and dynamic way. formed in august 2007 and rapidly launched to the stages, nairobi hosted dub nights in Buenos Aires and it..s surroundings and instantly began recording their first album rythm tracks. what at first appeared to be just one night recordings suddenly grew in strength and with the colaboration of artists such as Princesa, Zonora Point (chile), Rancho MC and Cizif et Puzz Mamma of the Dilaectik french band, the project began to have it..s own
identity and life.
belonging to a scene in which few dub bands exist, nairobi is the rebel, blasting tradition, learning to later forget it all. without claming for a place in reggae and taking no flags, this youthfull crew give way to ryhtmic trances and intense delay layers with a clear message of unity an conciousness of the universal belonging.
