About NAMALEE face of Reebok Freestyle launch July 31st
C4 Bright New Wonder : Namalee
There's no one quite like Namalee - she's an original - a pioneering multifaceted artist combining fashion, music and performance to create a visual and aural sensation based on her own universe Namazonia. Dreaming of becoming a cartoonist as a child Namalee also had an obsession with reading fashion magazines as if they were fairytales. The two obsessions would forever run side by side as in 1999 she was announced Winner of The Guardian Jackie Moore student fashion journalism prize, and by 2006 she'd already walked out on her prestigious job as fashion editor at Sleazenation and masterminded and co-founded SUPERSUPER magazine. SUPERSUPER is the trendsetting youth bible that was born out of the London underground clubscene and is widely given credit for kickstarting a cultural music/art/fashion rainbow revolution.
Namalee's brand of pop music has the same approach as her styling - fun, mash up, ultra rebellious and full of positive messages about female strength, love, honour and self knowledge. Her song writing is witty, fast, sexy, punchy and bright and she is currently working on an album with Rat Scabies (formerly of legendary punk band The Damned). She has played live shows in London, Paris, Germany, Austria, Denmark and Sweden and is currently working on new tracks and an official tour with release dates to be announced soon.
Mostly known for her widely copied flamboyant style she calls 'maxi-maximalism' Namalee has consistently smashed down boundaries of acceptable taste by brandishing her heavily loaded style weapons, toys, cartoons and beloved Spongebob accessories. As muse to designers Basso and Brooke, for 4 years she also styled shows for them at Sao Paulo, Moscow, Singapore, Berlin as well as London fashion week.Namalee has also worked and styled for Zandra Rhodes, Noki and Jean Charles de Castelbajac.
