"Vedan Kolod" composes its own material, but it is based on recent research and analysis carried out by archaeologists and folklore specialists, interpreting events in ancient, pagan Russia before the coming of Christians coming. Vedan Kolod shows the culture of original Russian traditions and songs.
During its history, "Vedan Kolod" had revived numerous almost forgotten Russian folk instruments – gusli, ocarina, Slavonic drums, Scythian horn, sharkuncy and others, - restored, mastered and reconstructed by musical master Valerii Naryshkin. All these ancient kinds of instruments are used actually in a program of the band, as well as a low throat style of singing which existed in Ancient Russia. All songs are played without any electronic processing, just live.

Music Review
Vedan Kolod “The Dance of the Wood Spirits”
The resurgence of the Slavonic Heathen spiritual faith which has become increasingly rooted throughout Central/Eastern Europe and Eurasia is truly an inspiring and exciting phenomenon, filled with great vigor and enthusiasm as it continues to spread like wildfire. The music of Vedan Kolod is an electrifying and stirring testimony to this reawakening of the ethnic folk soul of the Slavonic peoples, as brought to life through their recent album, “The Dance of the Wood Spirits”. Their musical compositions are entirely organic, completely devoid of synthetic/electronic instruments which makes their art all the more impressive and genuine. Standing far above even many of the most noteworthy and admirable musicians and bands spread throughout the Slavic community, they are without a doubt, one of the finest Heathen ethnofolk ensembles presently active. Their music is primordial, powerful and evocative, calling forth and bringing to life the atavistic spirituality, mythos, and worldview of the pagan Slavonic tribes. The interplay of traditional Slavonic low-throat sung vocal choral harmonies complemented by instrumental arrangements featuring Scythian horn, sharkuncy, gusli, bagpipe, ocarina and tribal drums imparts an intense and emotive musical synergy that is hauntingly beautiful, with elements of the ecstatic, uplifting, somber, bittersweet, and melancholic. Through their music, they make tangible and pay homage to what has been buried for far too long within the collective unconscious of our people by centuries of suppression under the alien creed of Christianity and the atheistic/materialistic void of the postmodern world. This album is essential for all of those exploring or attempting to connect with their Slavonic heathen roots. This is music of blood and soil- the timeless spirit and ancient life cycles of our Folk.
