Nathalie's new concept album "Letters" will be out in record stores and available on Itunes from the 9th of February. The songs contain stories of another time, many written in the letter form.
From Bergen to Italy: Nathalie Nordnes traveled to the Italian countryside to record her third album. With her suitcase packed with new songs and ideas, she hooked up with producer/drummer Rob Ellis (PJ Harvey, Marianne Faithfull.)
Inspired by her great companionship and environmental change, Nathalie spent two months recording in a 1700th century barn outside Senigallia.
“We recorded many of the songs and incidental tracks at night to get the right feeling and atmosphere. When recording daytime, I’d sit up all night anyway in the loft creating tunes on the wonderful instruments, my very own grand piano, a whale-sounding harmonium, and a beautiful old harpsichord. It was such a creative time. ”
Along came brilliant Italian musicians to join her sessions, like flamenco guitarist and clarinet player Manuel Randi and bass player genius Giorgio Vendola. Josh Klinghoffer (Red Hot Chili Peppers, Gnarls Barkley) also took part in the recording, adding remarkable colours to her songs.
On the album Nathalie tells stories of old shipwrecks, whalers, hardships at sea and not to forget mentioning love.
“I have always been fascinated by stories of the sea. As a child I enjoyed listening to my grandfather’s adventures as a machinist, and the interest has grown on me ever since,” Nathalie reveals.
“I have completely trusted the starting point of the songs as when I created them by the piano, adding little to cover them up in the production. To me, this record is more than I could ever dream of, it’s characterful, organic, nostalgic, romantic, filmatic and a petit peu Parisian.“
