2004年より渋谷を中心にライブ(ほぼ月3)や打ち上げ参加(ほぼ毎週)など精力的に活動を続ける愉快な4人組。ありえないほど高度に構築されたポップ・ソングを、ありえないほどの熱量で破壊する。その光景を目撃した者は、涅槃へと誘われるという…（注：バンド名の中のnhhmは、オリジナル・メンバーの名前の頭文字を組み合わせたもので、彼らは仏教徒でもニルヴァーナの大ファンというわけでもない）。2006年9月、& recordsよりミニ・アルバム『nhhmbase』にてデビュー。変拍子を多用しながらも、不思議なほどシンプルでポップな印象を与える楽曲と、ときに出血し救急車で運ばれるほどテンションの高いライヴを武器に、group_inou、トクマルシューゴ、OGRE YOU ASSHOLE、54-71、PANICSMILE、moools、lostageらとともに、新たなアンダーグラウンド・シーンを作り上げる。Deerhoof, TYONDAI BRAXTON(BATTLES)、HER SPACE HOLIDAY、+/-{PLUS/MINUS}、OWEN、MATT POND PA、xbxrx、The Can’t See、Black Blackなど海外バンドとの共演も数多く、そしてその全てのバンドが彼らの虜になっている。さらに、国内ミュージシャンからの支持も熱く、EGO-WRAPPIN'’、Base Ball Bear、the band apart、ストレイテナー、曽我部恵一、Chocolat & Akito、高田蓮、東京事変、依布サラサ、9mm Parabellum Bullet、Mass Of The Fermenting Dregs、sleepy ab.、相対性理論…等々、あらゆるジャンルや世代のアーティストから絶賛されている。2007年3月には、『STUDIO VOICE』誌の「ロックを担うかもしれない40組」に選出される。同年6月には、地上波全国放送の音楽番組『JUICE TV +』にて、OGRE YOU ASSHOLE、8otto、9mm Parabellum Bullet、Qomolangma Tomato らとともに“新世代突然変異バンド”として取り上げられ、さらにその最右翼バンドとして、nhhmbaseのみ異例の3週連続にわたってフィーチャーされる。2008年7月、54-71のリーダーこと川口賢太郎と、THE STROKESや8ottoを手がける世界的なプロデューサー＆エンジニアであるヨシオカ・トシカズというと最強最凶のタッグによってプロデュースされた1stフル・アルバム『波紋クロス』リリース。 5日間でレコーディング、ミックス、マスタリング全行程終了、全編モノラル・ミックスという大胆な作品で、2008年インディー・シーンにおいて、最大の物議を巻き起こす。この作品を引っさげ、北は北海道、南は神戸まで、全国7箇所のツアーに出る。最終日は曽我部恵一BANDとのガチンコ２マンで、渋谷o-nestを熱狂の渦に巻き込む。この勢いのまま、+/-{PLUS/MINUS}、bloodthirsty butchers、mooolsとともに、初の海外となる台湾に進出。現地でリリースされた『波紋クロス』とともに、熱烈な歓迎を受ける。その後、作詞・作曲・アレンジ・アートワークすべてを手がけるマモル以外が全員脱退することになり、台湾での公演が旧メンバーとしては最後の公演となった。皮肉にも同行したbloodthirsty butchersの吉村秀樹から初めて賛辞を受けたほど、最後にして最高のパフォーマンスを見せた彼らの最終公演を、ライヴではお馴染みながら長らく音源化が望まれていたセックス・ピストルズ「ANARCHY IN THE UK」の名カヴァーも含め完全収録したライヴ・アルバム『ALIVE AT THE WALL』を2009年3月リリース。nhhmbaseは、新メンバーを迎えて、マモルのソロ・プロジェクト的色彩を強めた新たなバンドとして再始動しているが、長らくライヴ・バンドとして高い評価を得てきた旧メンバーによる第一期nhhmbaseの最高の瞬間を永遠に封じ込めた貴重な作品として輝き続けるだろう。

It’s a perpetual motion machine that repeatedly destruct and construct the music with smiles.
The band name should be pronounced “ne-han base”. Formed in 2004, they consistently play live (almost 3 times a month on average) and join the after parties of their friends show (almost every weekend). They destruct with unbelievably tremendous energy their own songs that are constructed with unbelievably highly-developed skill. They are very outstanding in the underground scene in Tokyo now but their music is not too underground. It’s just completely “New”. Their music is very complex in structure. They like the irregular time. But they write very pop melodies at the same time. They have a strong will to innovate music. They have opened many foreign acts like Deerhoof, Tyondai Braxton (Battles), The Eternals, Her Space Holiday, +/-, Owen, Make Believe, Matt Pond PA, xbxrx, Black Black and more. All of the bands fell in love with them. Also, the Japanese famous acts like EGO-WRAPPIN', Base Ball Bear, the band apart, STRAIGHTENER, Keiichi Sokabe, Chocolat & Akito、Tokyo Jihen、9mm Parabellum Bullet、Mass Of The Fermenting Dregs、sleepy ab.、soutaiseiriron etc. respect them very much. In Sep 2006, & records (the Japanese home of Her Space Holiday, I Am Robot And Proud, The American Analog Set, +/-, Dntel, Joan Of Arc, Owen, Nobody & Mystic Chords Of Memory, Clue To Kalo, Boy In Static etc.) released their 1st mini album. In March 2007, the very famous and influential sub-culture magazine in Japan called Studio Voice chose them as one of "The Next Rock 40". In June 2007, they were featured on the TV progam "Juice TV +" as one of the new generation mutant bands with Ogre You Asshole, 8otto、9mm Parabellum Bullet、Qomolangma Tomato. In July 2008, their 1st full length "Hamon Cross" was released. It was produced, mixed and mastered by Kentaro Kawaguchi (main man of the band called 54-71) and Toshikazu Yoshioka (he has recorded The Strokes, 8otto etc.) for just 5 days and it was all mono mix. It was the most sensational record in the indie scene of that year. With this album, they toured all around the county and then went to Taiwan with +/-{PLUS/MINUS}, bloodthirsty butchers and moools. After the show in Taipei, all members except Mamoru (vocal, guitar, keyboard and songwriter) quit the band. In March 2009, live album "Alive At The Wall" will be released. It captured the last and best performance of the "old" nhhmbase with ex-members in Taipei. It also featured the great cover version of Anachy In The UK of Sex Pistols. Nhhmbase just restarted with new members now.
