Not exactly space rock or prog, not exactly folk or pop, not exactly punk or rock and roll, just a psychedelic blend all rolled up together. Sounds like electricity on a cellular level, like loud guitar chords creating OM. Like an ancient sing -a- long gone wrong. Like a mind masterpiece shared by living.
Like alien tampering. Like light year children come home.
NICK RIFF - PHOTON SHIFT CD AND FREE BONUS DISC AVAILABLE NOW !
Nick Riff creates all sounds human and otherwise on this new solo CD. The songs are long, not made for fast food consumption. Recorded at Oblivion Studio in Cleveland Ohio, it is the 3rd release in the Riffdisc series that will continue until 2012. With a playing time of 56:09 there are 7 songs of modern psychedelic rock with elements of spacerock and cosmic soundtrack jams. There's plenty of wild lead guitar and psycho synthesizers on this one, driven by pounding hard rock beats. The " so called " science fiction themes of the songs reflect the inner stirrings of change many feel is on the cusp of manifestation. But don't worry, if all this concept stuff doesn't pack your pipe, the production and mastering abilities of Mark Klein ( Cobra Verde, Breaker ) brings the sonic punch to Photon Shift that will shred all but the most capable sound systems. Play loud with your best buds at your next black light party.
Brief overview : Nick Riff, lost his mind, and embarked on a solo career that included worldwide CD / LP, 7"vinyl, cassette, and mini disc releases on labels such as Delerium Records, Cleopatra , Sonic Swirl , Pangea, Sound Of The Sea, and Riffdisc.
Various line ups for live performances and solo concerts have shared concert billings with Yes, Moody Blues, Hawkwind, Daevid Allen, Kasim Sulton, and many Cleveland area bands.
When Nick Riffs Freak Element band is in suspended animation, Nick performs as a solo artist playing acoustic versions of songs from his cd releases and unreleased songs performed exclusively in a solo environment. Nick is currently playing live shows as the Freak Element duo with synthesist Peter Platten, a 5 song bonus disc of this music is included with the new Photon Shift CD to first 300 orders.
The Magick Museum cd (2006) is the first release in the Riffdisc series, a compilation of music from releases in the 90's and is a perfect introduction for those still unfamiliar with this hybrid form of psychedelic rock.
Nick Riffs Freak Element - The World's Alive CD is the studio recordings of the cosmic powered festival band that followed in (2008). Downloads for both CDs at iTunes.
For now, Photon Shift and the free bonus disc is only available at the official website www.nickriff.com check it out for more fun and games.
With the completion of Photon Shift, the next release in the Riffdisc series, a requested instrumental soundtrack for the recent gathering of the Psychedelic Council, is in the final stages of mixing. A set of acoustic based psych-space pop like the music on the bonus disc is also in the works. A visit to the Attitude page will not go unrewarded.
This music has been known to cause missing time, restless leg syndrome,
Jedi cramps, Gollum writhing, stained fingertips, and Photon Shifts.
