The first real, serious blueprints for both the music and general concept behind The Dead of Night came about in June, 2007. Everything originated from a wealth of ideas, some left over unused from other music projects, some resurrected from an old catalogue of musical fragments that had never found a proper home. Simply put, Shadow’s goal was to create music that evoked night, its power and landscapes, the pleasant chill that assails the wanderer who is caught in its onset.

A considerable range of influences, from the darkest to the lightest brands of Ambient, Classical, Psychedelia and Extreme Metal, helped shape that scary looseness that raw ideas can have into something slightly coherent.

Three pieces written amidst the elation of a new beginning, a name aptly suggested by a most loved one and out came the first, quivering public steps of The Dead of Night. This website, featuring those few slabs of sound, was soon visited by a variety of curious and interesting people, who gave the completely unknown project the benefit of doubt and are worthy of deep gratitude.

In the wake of such stimulus, some efforts at promotion were carried out, hindered only by a series of personal events that severely reduced whatever spare time could be afforded to the project. This is also the reason why 2008 saw so little musical output, with only two new tracks added. A true pity, since there is a sunset every day, and its presence warrants some measure of devotion.

Still, there is much hope for the future, with the promise of more dedication and – this is tantamount – much, much more music. No longer a solo effort (see blog for singer Morgana Duvessa's bio), The Dead of Night will keep working hard throughout 2009.
