Sounds Like
An insane new twist on classic and garage rock.
Every show comes complete with a healthy dose of dirty bass riffs, wailing guitar solos, driving drum beats and a high-octane stage show to match.
Just make sure to bring a cane or walker. You just might need it after we blow out your spine.
NJs and The Jeff began a permanent leave of absence from the local music scene following their final show at the Agora in Cleveland on May 16, 2008.
The band personally thanks everyone who has ever come to a show or supported their music.
Keep supporting local music.
------------------------------------
Hailing from Akron, Ohio, NJs and The Jeff brings a forceful new side of vintage/classic-style rock to the stage. The band's let-it-all-out energy brings audiences in closer and their tight, aggressive stage presence keeps them there. The trio prides themselves in creativity: No song is ever played the same way twice. No matter what type of music people may prefer, NJs and The Jeff always sends them home with an energetic, exciting and memorable show every time.
The personality of the band, whose name is short for Non-Jeffs and The Jeff, pulls onlookers into to their performance before they even play a note. This immediate interest is peaked by the incredible chemistry between the band members, Taylor, Brian and (The) Jeff, which is immediately evident in the way the musicians play off of each other and have such an obvious great time while doing it. Over the course of a single set, listeners will experience a no-frills throwback style and larger-than-life guitar solos often compared to legendary groups such as Cream and King Crimson. This musical blitzkrieg continues with high-octane rhythms and riffs suggesting the power-rock sounds of Wolfmother and the blues-rock vibe of The Black Keys.
Less than two months after forming in February 2007, the band's first live performance honored them as the "Best at Kent State" after winning the campus-wide battle of the bands at this public university of more than 25,000 students. From that experience they were awarded the opportunity to share the stage with O.A.R., the festival's headliner. Ever since that first explosion of public approval and up to the loyal following found at every show of their ever-growing concert schedule, NJs and The Jeff has played everywhere from the bright lights of concert clubs to windy lake beaches with their tire tracks covering highways from Cleveland to Buffalo to Detroit. All the while, the band continues to gain the respect of casual listeners, professionals and entertainment media alike.
------------------------------------
In March 2008 the band won the Battle of Standing Rock semi-finals, from which the first video was filmed.
In December 2007 they were invited by The Beachland Ballroom to play with acclaimed instrumentalist Gary Hoey (garyhoey.com) from which the second video on this page was filmed.

What people have said about NJs and the Jeff
"Like Cream, only without the double kick drums"
- Mike Wieclaw
"[NJs and the Jeff] is quickly establishing themselves as one of the freshest bands in the area"
- Joe Shearer, On-Campus Entertainment, Daily Kent Stater
"It was ROCKIN'"
- Billy Gay
"When the smoke cleared at the Battle of the Bands in the Rathskeller last week, there was a clear winner: NJs and the Jeff. I should know - I helped judge the event. I listened to other judges talk about the bands and the performances they gave. It was an opinion that was universal to the judges' table."
- Ben Breier, Entertainment Editor, Daily Kent Stater
"The songs are solid, high energy, and effective. No one will argue with your musical talent...The entire show was great to see."
- Maurice Martin, Local Musician
"Fierce fucking rhythm section!...as bad-ass a 3-piece I've seen in quite some time...The energy put forth in the last song alone is dangerous!"
- David Ullman, Singer/Songwriter
"After that virtuoso drum performance, my spine is now a fine powder."
- Colin Moriarty
"Damn dirty hippies"
- "carla"
"NJs (which stands for "non-Jeffs") and the Jeff is easy to dismiss as a gimmick. Whether it be their introduction/disclaimer by 65-year-old Gary Larkin, their obsession with spines or the name of the band itself, NJs and the Jeff always seem to have the audience laughing. But make no mistake, there's nothing funny about the band's music, or its work ethic...The three band members pack as much punch into each second of their music as most bands do in one album."
- Joe Shearer, On-Campus Entertainment, Daily Kent Stater
"You guys are HUGE! I can't believe how much comes out of you guys, especially as a 3-piece!"
- some guy in Buffalo, NY
"Such a full sound from three guys - and tight, no slop."
- Jim Hurguy, Graphic Designer
