South American metal band, formed in Bogotá (Colombia) in 2005 by David Martinez (keyboards), Jose D. Barajas (guitar), Ana Barajas (voice), Jorge Gutierrez (Guitar), Rodolfo Caliz (Bass) and Jose F. Osorio (Drums) -- all are the original members of the band.

The music of Nova Orbis (which means "New World" in Latin) is a mix of different styles, involving the strength of metal sounds, the magic of the gothic, and the dynamism of progressive music.
An interesting note about the sound of Nova Orbis is that there is not an exclusive composer in the band, but rather the whole band participates in the process which can be heard in the variety of sounds and lyrics in their music.
In 2006, the band recorded their first demo, "Nova Orbis", in Artico Records (one of the most important recording studios for the metal scene in Colombia) which received an excellent response from both the fans and media. For the recording of their debut album, "Imago", they decided to work in another recording studio, Buena Onda Studio, and coproduce the album with Juan David Garcia, a producer that has worked with different genres of music from Jazz to Country to Rock. As a result, this album has a very interesting and fresh sound that can be noticed by the audience throughout the songs. Imago, which was released on september, 2009, contains 10 songs that talk about fantasy and literature in addition to politics and philosophy. They wanted to include not only the original instruments from the band, but also traditional instruments from Colombia like the "tiple" and the "bandola" (that can be heard in the song "change") as well as choir arrangements on a few of their songs.

Nova Orbis es una agrupación formada en Bogotá en 2005 por David Martínez (Teclados), José David Barajas (Guitarra), Ana María Barajas (Voz), Jorge Gutiérrez (Guitarra), Rodolfo Cáliz (Bajo) y José Fernando Osorio (Batería), todos miembros originales de la banda. La música de Nova Orbis (que en latín significa “Nuevo Mundo”) ha estado influenciada no sólo por el sonido del rock y el metal, su música es una mezcla de diferentes estilos que incluye la fuerza y sonoridad del metal, la magia de lo gótico y el dinamismo del rock progresivo.

Imago es el resultado de los casi cinco años de trabajo continuo de esta agrupación bogotana y contiene 10 canciones de autoría propia que hablan sobre fantasía, literatura, política y filosofía. La concepción musical del álbum se puede resumir en la búsqueda de un equilibrio entre la energía del metal, la magia de las atmósferas góticas y las fluctuaciones rítmicas del rock progresivo. Por otro lado, la Imago, vista como imagen, representación de las subjetividades expresadas a través del arte, pero también como la transformación que se da después de la metamorfosis, fue el concepto que quiso usar la banda para nombrar el álbum.

Para la grabación de su álbum, Nova Orbis decidió trabajar con el productor colombiano Juan David García en Buena Onda Estudio, quien ha trabajado con distintos géneros desde Jazz hasta Country y Rock en Colombia y Estados Unidos, la masterización del álbum se realizó en Classic Master en Sao Paulo, Brasil. El arte del álbum así como las fotografías del mismo estuvieron a cargo de Diego Alejandro Barajas.
