Second volume of far-reaching beat-making from up and coming Japanese label is one of those “out-of-nowhere” records that just drops in your lap, and you say “oh yeah…” New Japanese producers who re-write the old rules, and re-invent some new ones with tripped-out off-kilter hip hop, Afro-induced space-jazz, catchy break-hop, re-rubbed 92 boom-bap, & all manner of sampled mania.
Startlingly good and fresh, with a collision of sounds, styles, and vibes that only the Japanese seem to be able to pull off with a complete lack of irony, encompassing everything good about a lot of genres, while leaving out everything that’s bad. Unfortunately we missed out on Volume 1, but there’s a CD coming which includes the tracks from Volume 1, as well as a digi-version, for those who do that as well.
