Nyghtshade is a dark metal band from Maastricht , the Netherlands . This is how it all began..
Originally the band was founded in the Summer of 1998 as Nightshade. At the time the band consisted out of four band members, of which Ego Mania is the only remaining one. He started with the band as the bass player, but it wasn't long before he and the singer of that time switched places within the band.
As the new lead singer he quickly got involved in the writing of lyrics and arranging the songs based on the guitarists riffs. After a little while the cooperation went quite well. Ego started getting more involved in the song writing once he'd started dabbling on an old keyboard in the rehearsal room and the drummer started playing along. From then on keyboards were added to the band sound and Ego started writing musical lines as well.
After a couple of years of writing and playing a few small gigs the band started taking shape but unfortunately right at that time the band fell apart following accidents and personal drama and what had started as a promise was now effectively dead.
For two more years Ego continued to hold a dream of continuing what had started, but unfortunately the original band was not be anymore. He bought a synthesizer to continue his music writing and finally in October of 2002 he ran into Blutkraft, lead guitarist, with whom he decided to start over again. The old dream and name of Nightshade had endured but since it was a complete new start the spelling was adjusted to indicate the restart and so Nyghtshade was born.
Ego quickly got back into song writing and influenced by Blutkraft's more Industrial background a new, more electronic direction was chosen. Enough songs were written over the following year and recordings were made at “De Studio” in Asse , Belgium as produced by Ego's life long friend Isard.
Following the recordings the first CD-single was made (Alpha Your Omega Has Come) and 1000 copies were made in preparation of future efforts. Also a T-shirt was made and the studio recordings resulted in 10 songs being recorded in total.
2 new members joined the band in 2004, namely MX on bass and D on guitars and the band had their first live performance in April 24 th in the “Backstage” in Maastricht .
Unfortunately this was not meant to last. A couple of gigs later and after a long time of little movement within the band D decided to leave the band at the end of 2005. He didn't feel the band was progressing as he would like and had pciked up some different musical interests.
In 2006 Ego decided that there was no point in going on as things were, since the 3 remaining band members had too incompatible lives to get together often enough, due to personal lives and school and work schedules were in the way and in the summer the band was disbanded as such.
Not long after, however, Ego and Blutkraft decided the band was not quite dead yet and deserved another chance to make work and are currently planning to pick things up again together in the future. Currently work and school schedules remain an issue but there is some work going on in the background still. One thing to look forward to is the current remixing of the 10 songs that make up "Eyes of Gehenna" and the following issueing of those songs onto I-tunes including some remixes. Without a doubt things will continue to be a slow process and for any who enjoy our music it can be a long wait. Our apologies for that but life generally is what it is :) Still, there will be a continuance yet. It is our hope that our songs will be on I-tunes within a year (it now being 2008) and we will update things here accordingly.
