DJ Obey (aka Ryan Xristopher) has been on the decks since 2001, gradually tightening down his style, technique, and track selection through practice and self-analysis. In the last year or so, his sets have settled down into a pretty consistent theory - use the bass for energy, the mids for emotion, and the highs for movement. So he'll wander through groove-based tech house, progressive minimal, occasionally touch on harder techno, and add a dark vocal track to thread them together. His music is not for people who like too much sugar, and not for people who have no patience. But if you want to dig deep, if you want to hear the stories that the producers have written into their tracks, DJ Obey will give the discerning listener a trip not to forget.
He has played alongside DJ Confidence, Aku, Andrew Cox, and Jason LeMaitre from Confined Media, and opened for Alland Byallo, Sammy D, Craig Kuna, and Nikola Baytala of San Francisco's Kontrol crew; Christian Martin and Worthy from the Dirtybird label; and Ryan Elliot from Detroit.
