OBSIDIAN is a long reigning, high energy, writing, recording, and touring, groove oriented heavy metal band intertwined with aspects of industrial, hardcore, thrash, and death metal and has often been labeled as "Extreme Metal". Influences include: Static-X, Machine Head, Pantera, Slipknot, Slayer, Hatebreed, and Six Feet Under. OBSIDIAN generated out of the Fargo-Moorhead area on Christmas eve in 1997 and established themselves into the music scene with their first show in February at First Avenue in Fargo.
OBSIDIAN has played well over a hundred shows in several cities including the Monsters of Mosh festival during Sturgis in 2000, X-Fest in Bismarck in 2001, and two consecutive Great Northern Pig Roast Festivals in Bemidji, Minnesota in 2004 and 2005. Also in 2004 OBSIDIAN invited major label artist, Into Eternity off Century Media Records, to play in Fargo after their European tour. In 2007 OBSIDIAN beat out 24 other local bands in the only battle of the bands they entered in gaining them a position in opening for Powerman 5000, whos frontman is brother to Rob Zombie. OBSIDIAN has further spread their name from Minot to Minneapolis, and from Grand Forks to Aberdeen and continue to cover dozens of cities in between.
OBSIDIAN recorded their first eleven track studio album, "Human Distortion", in 2001 out on Black Rock Records at Raptor Studios with Mike Coates which includes crowd favorites, "Sick World", and "Monster" which has a video on Youtube.com with over 1300 views. In 2004 OBSIDIAN released "Live & Unleashed", a thirteen track disc of live songs, covers, and concept songs. Several tracks on these albums have been played on all the major rock and college stations Fargo-Moorhead including Q98, KDAM104.7, and Rock 102.
2008 OBSIDIAN releases, "Through it All", a 13 track sequel to Human Distortion also recorded at Raptor Studios. www.raptorstudios.com. Get your special edition holographic pre-release available after April 29 before the official fall 2008 release date.
2008 Gigantour Compilation, over 800 discs handed out through out the midwest and east coast during the Gigantour. OBSIDIAN appears on track 17 along with Cavalera Conspiracy on Road Runner Records and Himsa, and The Agonist, both on Century Media.
2004 OBSIDIAN released, "Live & Unleashed", a 14 track disc of unreleased live songs, covers, and professionally recorded b-side concept songs.
2001 was the release of their 11 track debut CD, "Human Distortion", recorded at Raptor Studios. www.raptorstudios.com
