A Note from Oceans Above

Dear friends,
In Jesus’ short life He modeled a revolutionary way to live and love – with a heart full of compassion and arms stretched out to the overlooked and ignored. Are we loving and caring for the people He loves and cares for? Or are we worshipping Him with lips alone?
Our hope is that this fresh interpretation of worship music coupled with Jesus’ own words will make you take another look at the way you worship.
‘I was hungry and you fed Me, I was thirsty and you gave Me a drink, I was homeless and you gave Me a room, I was shivering and you gave Me clothes, I was sick and you stopped to visit, I was in prison and you came to Me.' … Then the King will say ,“I'm telling the solemn truth: whenever you did one of these things to someone overlooked or ignored, that was Me — you did it to Me." The Message, Matthew 25:35-40
We invite you to worship with us in a new way. Collect food for your local food bank. Get involved with a local prison ministry. Tutor at your local rescue mission. Spend time with a widow at your local nursing home. Think about worship in action.

Thoughts from the producer--

I recently had a chance to go to the Atlantic Ocean for a weekend as I was finishing this record. We had just decided to call this project Oceans Above, so I couldn't help but think about what the name meant to me as I treaded the warm water. It is easy to forget, living in a land-locked state, just how powerful the ocean actually is, and I think it is just as easy to forget how awesome and powerful God is. I think the ocean is a perfect metaphor for Him. The constant sound of the waves and the tide reminded me of the grace of God; that He is big enough to handle anything we throw at Him. He remains unchanging and becomes our peace. He is also vast, powerful, and all encompassing, and He invites us to experience the depths of true communion with Him.It is why we are here on this planet. I hope this album inspires you to worship in new ways, and I don't just mean singing along at church or in your car. My prayer is that you would recognize that all of life, every moment, is an opportunity to worship. Let me say that again. All of life is an invitation to worship! Every situation is a chance to glorify God, and if we listen closely, we will hear that He is inviting us to experience depths that our souls long for. May we stop walking along the shore and swim out into the ocean.
-Chad Howat

Matthew 25:31-40
31-33"When he finally arrives, blazing in beauty and all his angels with him, the Son of Man will take his place on his glorious throne. Then all the nations will be arranged before him and he will sort the people out, much as a shepherd sorts out sheep and goats, putting sheep to his right and goats to his left.
34-36"Then the King will say to those on his right, 'Enter, you who are blessed by my Father! Take what's coming to you in this kingdom. It's been ready for you since the world's foundation. And here's why:

I was hungry and you fed me,
I was thirsty and you gave me a drink,
I was homeless and you gave me a room,
I was shivering and you gave me clothes,
I was sick and you stopped to visit,
I was in prison and you came to me.'

37-4"Then those 'sheep' are going to say, 'Master, what are you talking about? When did we ever see you hungry and feed you, thirsty and give you a drink? And when did we ever see you sick or in prison and come to you?' Then the King will say, 'I'm telling the solemn truth: Whenever you did one of these things to someone overlooked or ignored, that was me—you did it to me.”

Matthew 10:5-10
5-8Jesus sent his twelve harvest hands out with this charge:
"Don't begin by traveling to some far-off place to convert unbelievers. And don't try to be dramatic by tackling some public enemy. Go to the lost, confused people right here in the neighborhood. Tell them that the kingdom is here. Bring health to the sick. Raise the dead. Touch the untouchables. Kick out the demons. You have been treated generously, so live generously.
9-10"Don't think you have to put on a fund-raising campaign before you start. You don't need a lot of equipment. You are the equipment, and all you need to keep that going is three meals a day. Travel light.”

Great sound...i love it. You should totally have 'In Christ Alone' on your page though...that's one of the best worship renditions I've ever heard. I love the juxtaposition of the classic lyrical value against the contemporary sub-pop indie sound. Very talented vocals and arrangements...thank you!
