A three-piece band at the time, best friends Andrew Gannon and Bryan Foster along with family friend Chris Lange (The Dropouts) would soon lay the foundation for the simplistic ideals of The Offbeats. Growing up Bryan had already been gaining musical knowledge in playing the guitar and through forms of songwriting. The band sound at the time was influenced by the Beatles to Nirvana as well as bands of the late 70s punk rock scene (the Clash, Buzzcocks, Sex Pistols, etc.) Now all that was needed were the pieces to produce the thoughts he had long envisioned. Ultimately Chris became too busy w/ his other band and Andrew was about to start college in Sherman, Texas. Changes needed to happen immediately in order for The Offbeats to survive.
In 2001, with the future of the band uncertain, new members Mike Griffin and Eric Romasanta would fit right in to pick up where the others left off. Mike would soon takeover at the drums learning all the songs in one week at his house to the surprise of the rest of the band. Eric picked up the guitar and became the perfect compliment to Bryans lead. Being friends since high school made this an easy transition for the band to move on. The only question mark was at bass. After a year or so of commuting from Sherman to San Antonio for shows, a decision had to be made. Eventually his younger brother Colin would replace Andrew in early 2003. The last member to join the band? Who else but Bryan’s second youngest brother Sean. Sean, like Bryan was very adept to music and now plays acoustic guitar and keys.
With all the pieces in tact, the progression became natural. Through hours of practice each member would better hone their craft at their instruments and would develop a new, improved Offbeats sound like no other. Still deriving from past influences, the door had been opened to new modern influences such as the Strokes, Interpol, Radiohead, Arcade Fire, The Hives, Shins, White Stripes, etc. to shape and mold the new sound of The Offbeats.
Over the years, The Offbeats have played hundreds of local shows in their hometown of San Antonio and have developed a respectable fan base within the city. Just this past year the band has shared the stage with National Acts: Kings of Leon, and the Stills as well as taking a part in the festivities at SXSW in Austin, TX. Having self produced many demos in the past; The Offbeats will be working on their first full-length album this summer.

"DJ Monkey …soul-stirring, excitingly edgy music…just disturbing (read ‘mind-f**king’) enough to demand attention. There is a whole spice rack of auditory flavors here, served up like fractured poetry on a collection of intensely listenable Hallmark cards from Hell." Bill Margold, Cinema Seen, L.A.
