Sounds Like
"F***ing brilliant!" - Mark Ronson, 'Authentic Shit' on East Village Radio
The Time of the Assassins is a mellow affair steeped in folk and pub rock and ska, with earthy instrumentation drifting up through the mix. It combines groove and melody with the same machine-like precision that sets Fraiture's other outfit apart. Then there are the lyrics: woozy vignettes about big cities and bad romances delivered in a seen-it-all drawl." - Rolling Stone
"Like a cowboy flick in which everyone's carked it by the end, 'Back From Exile' is a gunslinger that Johnny Cash could have crooned were he still with us, while 'Where The Cold Wind Blows' is pure suicide-watch Leonard Cohen." - NME
"Original sound and inspiring lyrics. This year's must-hear, breakthrough album!" - Patrick Carone, entertainment director at Maxim Magazine
"The merging of Fraiture's post-punk monotone to the over-riding folk-rock sensibilities of the album produces one of its most compelling aspects. A catchy and solid effort revealing a perceptive, understated lyrical and musical talent." - Clash Magazine
Nickel Eye does a great job of blurring the lines between folk, indie and rock fusing all three styles with perfect balance. Fraiture also really nails the spirit of the singer/songwriters he draws influence from. - Artist Direct
Nikolai Fraiture is running in this year's NYC Marathon for a charity called Team For Kids (NYRRF). For more info, and how to help (by donating or bidding on auctioned items), check out the blog above.

BIO
Nickel Eye is the side project of The Strokes’ bassist Nikolai Fraiture.
When The Strokes’ hiatus began taking longer than expected, Nikolai reached into an old shoebox of poems and rants written years ago. With his free time, he began adapting them to music. Enlisting the help of South, a UK band introduced to him by a friend, Nickel Eye recorded some demos at South Studios in Hackney, London. With some guest appearances by Nick Zinner of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Regina Spektor, The Time of the Assassins was completed a few months later in New York City. The album is written and produced by Nickel Eye. It is musically inspired by some of his favourite artists, such as Neil Young, Frank Black, Leonard Cohen and The Kinks and was released January 27th, 2009 on Rykodisc. The artwork is reminiscent of Lynd Ward’s Gods’ Man, a collection of woodcuts considered to be one of the first graphic novels. The lyrics and theme for The Time of the Assassins found their impetus during a road trip across the United States of America when Nikolai was nineteen.
