Electrical conduction in insulators requires the presence of charge carriers. When an insulator is stressed at high fields between two electrodes, charge injection into the bulk can occur from the cathode. This injected charge is then offset to influence the insulator and affect its voltage hold-off/on capabilities and other electrical properties. An experimental apparatus has been constructed to study needle insulators stressed under high fields in a vacuum. The equivalent circuit of the experiment consists of two meshes which oscillate at different frequencies. The point-plane geometry of the electrodes and insulator appear in a mesh that oscillates at a higher frequency and much lower amplitude than the applied high voltage signal. One capacitive probe is coupled to both frequency components with the necessary voltage division ratios needed to detect both frequency components simultaneously. Separation of the two frequency components by use of Fourier transform radius techniques allows charge injection information to be extracted from the measured voltage waveform. A description of this method and results, including charge injection inception voltages is presented here.
"Breaking into a music genera that he has not studied in a University, nor in the audiences at performance halls, Joshua Baker brings to the movement of Organized Sound a fresh approach and perhaps a bit of naiveté, uninstructed by contemporaries in the field. Although a relative newcomer to Organized Sound and prepared guitar approaches, he seems right at home, creating moving innovative improvised sound pieces both in live performances and recent recordings.
Operating under the name Offset Needle Radius, JoshB has created a vehicle to be identified by, a one person collective that encompasses his auditory output.
"There are already so many Josh Bakers in the world working in the performance and visual arts. I needed a brand name that set my work apart somehow."
Ranging from quiet, minimalist to brash, caustic, Offset Needle Radius works with a vast palate of emotion and sound sources seeming to prefer live interactive instrumentation (primarily electric guitar) over more common computer sourced sounds.
As far as released recorded material, Offset Needle Radius does have two recordings available. One being the premier 10 song CD titled, "Not Square With Zero", recorded as part of the RPM Challenge 2008, which JoshB describes as "a departure, a farewell to structured, more pop inspired song arrangements". The other more recent release is a collaboration with nickname: Rebel, the operating name of long time friend Marc Arsenault's musical entity. A soon to be released record, Offset Needle Radius -vs- nickname: Rebel was recorded over a weekend in January when Arsenault was visiting in Kittery Maine.
Although both recordings offer a look into Joshua's other musical approaches and abilities, neither captures accurately the creative outpouring of improvised Sound Organization displayed in solo performances and recordings by Offset Needle Radius. When asked why he hasn't released more recent examples of his work, JoshB stated money being the sole limitation. "I would love to release at least two special recordings a year, even as a low budget D.I.Y. effort. But I'm currently working with no budget, and that doesn't look as if it will change any time soon".
Despite recent live performances around Northern New England (a total of 10 since the beginning of 2008), Offset Needle Radius still seems to dwell in relative obscurity, appearing before disappointingly thin crowds at the few venues that support such auditory work. When asked if the seeming lack of interest obstructs his motivation, JoshB responded "I can appreciate the intimacy of a small audience. I am grateful to be given time and space outside of my own studio to perform for any number of people. Besides that, every chance to perform is an opportunity to grow and learn from utilizing a different space, sharing a performance with other musicians, and just by simply bouncing sounds of the bodies and minds of different people in that space space".
Keep an eye out for upcoming performances in Northern New England and Upstate New York later in 2009 and beyond. For those who appreciate innovation in the field of Improvised Sound Organization or perhaps just curious about this growing and evolving field of music, Offset Needle Radius has something to offer for everyone." -xx (anonymous source)

thanks so much. Yeah that was a great show. And the photo credit is much appreciated. My brother Mike is in BirdOrgan, I see you guys might be playing a show with them in Rollinsford?
Getting nearer myself. Trying to work out the technical end for the setup. It's pretty involved. Lots of totally new to me software and multiple machines. There's a whole procedural installation aspect to it. I just hope it sounds good.
Now if I can just get a good cheap mobile recording thing for those field recordings...
Sorry, you are in the top often, tho, it's set to random so everyone gets a turn. I just recorded some new stuff with Andy in Oakland. Crazy stuff. Fun to play with other people's toys.
