TAKE A PEEK AT ONEBALLJAY'S PRODUCTS FOR AN AWESOME 2007-08 SEASON!!!
ONEBALLJAY began as an experimental surf-wax project circa '85 when Jay Rota ( aka. ONEBALLJAY ) & Matt Cummins were introduced to the sport of surfing. During the summer, skateboarding was a main focus and surfing proved to be a fresh alternative. In the midst of surfing and driving to the beach, they decided to try to make their own surfing wax. The first concoctions were terrible, dubbed "sap wax" because it contained car oil, bees wax & tree sap.
As the rainy season rolled, time spent surfing and skateboarding warped into time spent snowboarding. Like the surf wax, new concoctions of snowboarding waxes were being made to get the boards shredding down the mountains. After combining canning paraffin with graphite, snowboarding wax was born. Only a few bars were produced at a time and samples were given to Mike & Pete from Mervin. They suggested the new wax be called "ONEBALLJAY" because shortly before a wax-drop, Jay had a nasty skateboarding accident. Basically, the tail of his board nailed him in the balls and he had to go to the doctor to get checked out. It was pretty gnarly, but he healed up fine and the name stuck.
Over time, news about the wax spread to local shops and orders came pouring in for the specialized bars. Production was put into high gear and ONEBALLJAY waxes were off. Bryan Rushforth was brought in as another partner and the company set up shop. Gradually, wax formulas, tools, accessories and clothing were developed and a steady following of shops and snowboarders grew worldwide. Today, ONEBALLJAY has gone full circle and introduced new ideas for shredding, skateboarding & surfing. We came back to what we started doing in the beginning. Thanks OneBallJay for bein the wax that gets me there for the last 10 years! Traversing to Southback,Guntower or down I-5 at Crysatal...gettin ANYWHERE at Heavenly...crusin through the flats at the bottom of Scotty's in Mammoth on an 8 ft powder day before the cats can clear ya a path...couldnt have had nearly as much fun without ya!
