a month of sundays started out in Nov '06 as a collaboration between the model arts and niland gallery in Sligo and dj and filmmaker Donal Dineen. The Model invited Donal to leave the radio studio behind and bring the Small Hours to the stage and for the month of November 2006 he was in residence each Sunday evening to present his personal picture show of music and images brought together under the banner Music's My Excuse
This innovative series took to the road in 2007 with another suite of November sundays with performances in Kerry, Galway, Limerick and Cork. Each performance was developed with the venue in question, resulting in a unique event to suit each location. As well as putting on a musical picture show, this series was an opportunity to showcase some of the best contemporary musical talent around with performers from Ireland, the UK, Europe and Canada.
Here is the full 2007 line up with links and all that good stuff (deep breath):
“All of the acts I’ve invited to play have at some stage been an inspiration to me. Sometimes it only takes a sound to get an idea going and the camera rolling; once the spark is lit the dialogue is ongoing. Opportunities to actually collaborate don’t come around that often however, which is where the Model comes in. It’s a festival’s worth of music spread out over four weeks”
“Since leaving music television after No Disco a decade ago I've lived the charmed life of a professional music appreciator. I see music as the framework through which all creativity passes, so pretty much every attempt I've made to start a film project has turned into a music video. Usually what happens is the track I've been listening to most while shooting super-8 film becomes the eventual soundtrack for the resulting pictures.
The visual records I make and keep of these songs are my attempts at a tribute and more often than not simply a labour of true love. For the Model shows I'm going to work on four new pieces and project them as well as bits and pieces that map out the journey from 1996 to 2007. Along the way I'll be presenting picture shows set to music by Stuart A Staples, Kreidler, Aplliance, Luke Vibert, Global Goon and Hulk."

Month of Sundays wants to give a big shout out to foggy notions for all their support and for generally being the classiest music journal around. We love Foggy. And not just because they're going to have lots of deadly interviews with the MOS crew in their next issue. honest. they always have taste this good.
An even bigger shout out goes to The Arts Council Touring Experiment. We're a research partner in the Touring Experiment and without their whopping support this tour would not be coming to a town near you, not even nearly.
Have a gander at the videos on the site and browse through the blogs and you'll get a feel for the whole thing. It's magic. promise.
we might be done for '07 but we have every intention of lighting up the rabbit once again...keep an eye on this page or check your bulletins for news of the next one...and thanks for coming!
