ORCOP (previously known as Middlekid) has been in existence for about 10 years, wether playing down tempo electronica or experimental techno/house, Gwydion ap Hywel's beats & lo-fi electronic music veers in the direction of accessability, yet always challenging and organic. Signed to Cardiff’s award winning Machine-Records in 2004, Orcop's releases include the acclaimed 'Diablo & Drum' e.p. which came in limited vinyl format & as a download release, a re-issue of the self released Middlekid album, followed by a number of download singles and some sporadic self releases. Orcop has received a lot of support and radio play in Wales and the UK, which started in 2005 with a live radio session for the Huw Stephans show on Radio 1. More recently in 2008 Orcop guested on the Rob Da Bank show with an hour long mix of Welsh electronica (Radio 1 (link below)). As well as being a regular on the live circuit he’s supported the likes of Hot Chip, Nathan Fake, Alex Paterson (The Orb) and Mike Paradinas (Planet Mu). Orcop has recently collaborated with fellow welsh electronic artist 'valley lines' to form the 'birds of shore & sea' duo (profile below) and is currently working on new solo material. CHRISTOPHER REES [Blues / Soul / Country] "Intense and absolutely mesmerizing" Huw Stephens (BBC Radio 1)
CONVOI EXCEPTIONNEL [Minimalist / Rock / Hip Hop] "Convoi Exceptionnel are a Welsh rock and hiphop duo from the mean streets of Aberystwyth. Despite now living 300 miles apart and armed with only an SM58, a Mac and a twenty pound guitar from Argos they've managed to knock up some tunes for your enjoyment and get played on national radio"
DRAW ME STORIES [Alternative / Folk Rock / Indie] "A dark and raw yet perfectly polished and professional performance that will surely lead to bigger things...No doubt helped along by the fact lead singer Carl Hodgetts has the kind of Ian Curtis/ Paul Banks voice that makes girls go weak at knees!"
VALLEY LINES [Electronica / Dub / Psychedelic] "Valley Lines is the main musical project of Cardiff based electronic producer and sound artist Christian Gates, his musical output shifts from simplistic electro to densely layered electronica, often incorporating sound recordings from the natural environment with complex beats and synthesised noise"
...plus DJ's for a good old dance!
Get the weekend started early ;~) Luv, [Thee alternative - EVERY month!]
