Ornaith O'Dowd is a songwriter and recording artist from Galway, Ireland and now based in Brooklyn, New York, who makes lo-fi new wave/ postpunk-inflected pop songs. In 1995, aged 17, Ornaith recorded a very lo-fi cassette album called "Blank Melodies" under the name The Craving, and formed a band of the same name who played around Galway a bit in the late 90s (which was a lot of fun as far as those involved can remember). These days, when she is not making songs, Ornaith works on her PhD in philosophy at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York. Three of the tunes here are on a 2006 EP called "The Pomegranate Heart" , and "Circle" is from "Blank Melodies". "Said and Unsaid," "The Interview," "One December Day," and "Car Tapes" feature on the album "World of Gutters" (2009). For more music and information, go to ornaithodowd.blogspot.com.
