My father, aside from being a psychologist, was a fine musician. He regaled us with bedtime stories and played or sang to us as well. I was convinced he composed the toodle-doodle-do song, which in reality was the Missouri Waltz. He covered a range of music, but I especially recall being fond of "I wish I Could Shimmy Like My Sister Kate": Oh, I wish I could I shimmy like my sister Kate; She shimmies like a jelly on a plate. My mama wanted to know last night, What makes the boys think Kate's so nice.

Another musical memory - the first time I wanted to kill my sister Carol (these urges are long since gone) was when she broke my copy of "Polly Wolly Doodle" by Burl Ives.
MoviesThe Man Who Would Be King, Dr Strangelove, Young Frankenstein, The Princess Bride, Being There, Party Girl (the girl is saved by the Dewey Decimal System)

About me:

Overbooked: a resource for omnivorous readers, established 1994: http://www.overbooked.org

I've been overbooked for years now, and still enjoy posting new book info, starred review lists, etc. Mike has quit asking me if the web site is done yet . . .

"she is too fond of books, and it has turned her brain" - Louisa May Alcott

I've always been a word child.

According to my parents, I slept with books and a stuffed Tigger when I was a toddler. According to Mike, I still sleep with books. The stuffed Tigger has been replaced with assorted live beasties and Mike.

Book I was probably too young to read when I did: The Painted Bird by Jerzy Kosinski
I'm probably still too young to read it.

Some stuff that has been said about me over the years:
  • If you were a fruit you'd be a pomegranite.
  • You are disgustingly adaptable.
  • Oh yeah, you were the strange, quiet one who read alot.
  • Allowing you to work off your (huge) fine at the library was more an odd sort of positive reinforcement than a punishment. - my father, the psychologist..

I'll admit to being an enthusiastic person, in a quiet sort of bookish way. Like T.J., I cannot live without books. Well, I probably could (since I'm disgustingly adaptable) but I'd rather not. Some other things I'd rather not live without:

  • Mike
  • Family
  • Friends (especially my long term buds and pals)
  • Water - in all forms
  • Music
  • Annimals
  • Other librarians and book people

Current creatures

Dogs= Sookie and Burke. Sookie looks like something out of a Tim Burton movie and Burke could have been created by Dr. Seuss. Cats = Nina Zero, Alafair and Zasu Implusive Pitts. Pics - ACT

I could live without MS, as could many others.

Here are some of my father's favorite sayings, etc.

  • PANG over RAID - translated, this means Play, Affliation, Nurturance, Gratitude over Rejection, Aggression, Inferiority Avoidance, Defendance. My father's research was based on the Murray need system and he frequently used this as a blessing.
  • "keep your eye on the donut not on the hole" - from poem
My worst nightmare - I'm trapped (without a book) by a very large spider wielding dental drills, emitting sudden loud noises, and incessantly chewing ice.

Current non book enthusiasms:

  • Artwork by Milenko Katic - especially the corvids
  • Corvids
  • Luna Bars - Caramel Nut Brownie
  • V-8 Mango Peach Fusion Juice
  • my MP3 player
  • almost all Kashi products
  • Cadbury Dark Chocolate Mini Eggs
  • Allmusic.com
  • Pandora.com

Additional personal stuff: ACT

Who I'd like to meet:
Avid Readers, Authors, Libraryland Folks, Bookish Sorts, Artists, Musicians

hi do check my new book out. on www.allromanceebooks.com dark regards nick armbrister. its quite dark and about the perils of online dating. enjoy!:)

In our 21st century world of e-mail, internet and online networking sites, many things happen good and bad. People talk to one another in real time. They often fall in love without ever meeting. How on earth is it possible? Most of us use the net today without a second glance. Just be careful this could happen to you. When Fred was contacted by Betty, he was unaware of the torment and heartache he'd face.
Excerpt:
He only ever was in love with one woman. What's the difference of loving a gal compared to being in love? He knew the answer, oh yes he did. He had loved a certain gal for almost five years now. Five long, tough, lonely years—she was inside him all that time. She was like him in so many ways how would he not be in love with her forever? Would it be wise to share her name with you? he wondered, for it's all so very true.
No, he'll change her name to respect her privacy. Also there were other gals before her and since they deserved anonymity, they received it. This story is ongoing and won’t end until the certain gal says yes or he takes his last mortal breath

I've perused your profile, and I trust that right eyebrow has filled in nicely by now...

Thank you for befriending a Romance/Women's Fiction novelist:

"Crumbs of callousness, blame, self-sacrifice, repression, and restlessness are strewn along the unmarked trails of introspection and reinvention winding through Carla Matteo's journey in the Second Act of life."

G'day Ann :)

Thanks for the add. I'm a fellow Librarian in Australia. I work for Gosford City Library, which is about 60 miles north of Sydney.

I discovered your myspace page as our library has a link to overbooked in our "reading related weblinks" section.

www.gosford.nsw.gov.au/library

Its interesting to see various readers groups, libraries on myspace etc.

Have good one!
