Don’t bail out… Yet.
Don’t bail out just yet.
With Parachute XVI you never know what's coming next. Soaring ballads, crunchy rock’n’roll riffs, adventures in time signatures, ‘progadelia’, or just flat out improvisation; Parachute XVI seamlessly mould themselves into a musical organism lending cadence to the theory of the greater whole - each of their musical sensibilities and their influences are channeled into pieces of art that can truly be called their own.
Steeped in the blues tradition of guitar playing, Ananth Menon is a veritable monster on the six strings - effortlessly straddling the two worlds of groove and technique with a feel tempered by years of playing his fingers to the bone for various blues, and rock bands. Ganesh Krishnaswamy has been intensely involved with metal for a long time, but has always nursed an open approach to the seven notes that make his world tick. Married with an inherent sense of rhythm, this allows him unfettered freedom, to create, and frolic in his universe of sound. Coming from a strong progressive and experimental background, former His Girl Friday and Fangle Dangle & the Skoogle Skangle (Glasgow) drummer, and most recent addition to the band, Gurudarshan Somayaji brings his variety of insanity into the band. He will be an anchor and also make his own contributions when Parachute lift off on their sonic meanderings.
This is no hobby for Parachute XVI, and nothing is done in half measure as they obsessively think up ways of taking their music and their band to the next level. Not many Indian bands will record in the first few months of their existence, most are content jamming around covers trying to “find themselves”. Parachute XVI jumped head first into Acoustic Garden and recorded a four song EP titled Sodium Trail And The Current Beantown Voice released early September 2009, and the band is on its course to travel through India to promote it.
