Parliament of Trees
Founded in the summer of 2007, Parliament of Trees is a collective/label based out of Winnipeg, Canada. Initially devised as somewhat of a work-share arrangement between two unsigned bands (The Paperbacks and The Details), the banner has expanded in function and importance to suit the needs of its principals, and is poised to take on a life of its own.
Despite the loose arrangement at its inception, Parliament of Trees managed to have two releases in the Canadian college top 50 over the autumn of 2007 (The Details' "Draw a Distance. Draw a Border" and The Paperbacks' "An Illusion Against Death"), and heavy touring in support of the releases, as well as excellent reviews of both, cemented the connection between the two groups and the existence of the label.
The first quarter of 2010 sees the release of The Paperbacks' new double CD, "Lit From Within," as well as a planned split 7" featuring The Paperbacks and Winnipeg singer/songwriter Ian Larue. The label will also venture into the realm of print with a serialized publication, "Micropolitan," authored by Catherine Lowe and Paperbacks singer Doug McLean.
