Hailing from Perth, Western Australia, Pathogen are five-piece dedicated to giving new life to the musical genre of metal. Combining intricate and epic melodies with powerful groove sections and rich acoustic passages, Pathogen have developed a unique style which is often described as an intelligent of mixture melodic deathmetal bands like In Flames or Opeth as well more groove-orientated bands like Pantera or Carcass,
In 1996 Pathogen released their 1st demo entitled Tyranny of Hatred which sold out in the first few months of its release and helped Pathogen establish an underground following. Their 2nd demo Nightfall, released in 1998, that established Pathogen as one of the most respected local metal acts on the local scene to date.
In 2002, Pathogen commenced work on their much anticipated debut album Bloodline. This album showcases the best of Pathogens material, written and refined over the previous 7 years. Bloodline was recorded, mixed and mastered at Sovereign Studios and was recently released in Australia on independent label Prime Cuts and distributed nationally by MGM Distribution.The public’s response to the album was nothing short of astounding, receiving rave reviews everywhere and selling several thousand copies in the first couple of months, far surpassing the band’s original expectations.
Pathogen have long been revered as a band that provides an explosive live performance. Their first Australian tour was to sold out shows with Finland's Children of Bodom, where they recruited a new army of loyal fans that now spans across the nation. Pathogen have since toured Australia several times, both headlining festivals and their own shows. They recently returned from a national tour with The Black Dahlia Murder from USA, which encompassed 5 capital cities in 5 days. Pathogen have also shared the stage with Opeth (Sweden), Fear Factory (USA), Arch Enemy (Sweden), Dark Tranquillity (Sweden), Mayhem (Norway), Entombed (Sweden), Shadows Fall (USA), Dismember (Sweden).Impaled Nazarene (Finland) and As I Lay Dying (USA).

After months of Judging and deliberation and with over 4,000 votes from the general public we are pleased to announce the finalists for each category of the 2009 Australian Metal Awards. Check our website for the details.
The winners will be announced on the 7th of November at the 2009 Australian Metal Awards Show which will be held at the Forum (Entertainment Quarter, Moore Park, NSW). Anyone who buys a pre-sale ticket to the 2009 Australian Metal Awards before Wednesday the 30th of September will go in the running to win 2 tickets to “Screamfest”.
Screamfest is a two day event commencing New Years Eve at the Enmore Theatre, Sydney. There will also be a third day of celebrations on Sydney Harbour with a Heavy Metal boat cruise.
