Patrick Ballantyne, a Toronto-based Singer/ Songwriter, has been writing his own songs since he first picked up a guitar at the age of 14. Heavily influenced by the sounds of CKLW , the radio station that brought so much great music to the windsor/ Detroit area, you can hear echoes of the motor cities in his timeless songs. Early on, he forged a strong bond with Gordie Johnson who later formed Big Sugar and Grady. Together they have written songs that have become staples of Canadian radio, including "If I Had My Way", "Girlwatcher", "Gone for Good" and "All Hell For a Basement". Patrick has also co-written five of the tracks on Grady's current CD, "A Cup of Cold Poison" including the recent single "One of These Days". Patrick co-wrote the Trews single "Poor Old Broken Hearted Me" which charted well for the band in 2007. One of Patrick's proudest achievements was co-producing his friend Kelly "Mr. Chill" Hoppe's CD, "Mr. Chill's Cold Testament". That CD also included a number of songs he wrote or co-wrote, including "Rollin Thunder". It will be available in the Spring of 2008. He will also be performing select shows in support of the CD.
There's a little piggy out there who says if you don't make it out to the show tonite, she's gonna find you somewhere on Richmond street and lay a beating...or, something like that. See ya tonite?
Hey Patrick, this isn't Peter, I just accept his friends and say the inital 'hey', but he responds to all messages on here personally. Just trying to help free up some of his time so he can still write music! That's awesome that you heard of Peter through Sean, I absolutely adore that guy's music. They are playing a show together soon (not in TO, though) and I am really excited to finally see Sean play live! Thanks and take care, Emma (PK Team)
I finally got a chance to listen to the new CD, and it sounds great Patrick! Nice vocals on "What You Call Love", and I've had "No One Came" stuck in my head for a couple of days now. Frankly it's driving me crazy but I like it...
Hey Patrick! Thanks for the friend request doo-dad. The rigours of parenthood have ensured that I haven't listened to the CD yet, but once our little guy is asleep I'll throw on the headphones and give it a spin. I expect to hear a fair share of a certain electric 12-string on your next CD!
Anyway, great to see you today, take care, and remember to always start your day with a bowl full of That Satisfying Crunch!
(by the way, was W4 on the air when you were in Windsor? Best FM station ever!)
