Spotted playing with his country-rock band by Bang Records in 1970, Paul Davis was signed to the label as a solo artist. Born on April 21, 1948, in Meridian, MS, his soft, country inflected style helped win him several minor hits, including his first single, a cover of the Jarmels' 1961 doo wop hit "A Little Bit of Soap." He released his first LP with Bang in 1972, A Little Bit of Paul Davis. His next album, Ride 'Em Cowboy, produced a signature song of the same name. He followed up that album with Southern Tracks and Fantasies in 1976. 1977's album, Singer of Songs -- Teller of Tales featured the ballad "I Go Crazy," which would become his biggest hit, peaking at number seven a full eight months after its release. Its continuing appeal helped keep it in the Top 100 for 40 more weeks.
In 1981, he moved to Arista Records and recorded the LP Cool Night, which spawned two Top 20 hits, including "65 Love Affair." The album was more slickly produced and was more pop-influenced than his previous releases. The formula was not a comfortable one for Davis, however, and he reverted to country recordings, eventually issuing two country-pop duets with Marie Osmond in the late '80s.
Just wanted to let everyone know that pictures have been posted of Uncle Paul and wish everyone a very Merry Christmas or Happy Holiday and a very Happy New Year!
Paul Davis left us with a great gift..his music from his soul. I still watch his videos, I Go Crazy is the one I am mezmorized with. When I see his eyes.. he has so much deep emotions..I love that. But I do know he is in Heaven.... playing his beautiful music for the angels. He has been very loved. When I get to Heaven someday...save me a seat, preferably front row ! lol GOD BLESS THIS MAN OXOXOXOXOOXOO
Uncle Paul will always be greatly missed but he will continue to live on through his music and his loving son. When my aunt signed him to her Bang records label back in 1969 he not only was just a performer but also her very best friend in the world til the day he passed; they talked almost every day. We may not have been related by blood but we were through his heart and he will always be a part of our Bang Record's family. Now he's laid to rest with his family but lives on in our hearts forever just as he touched each of our lives forever and he will always be our Uncle Paul to us! God Bless and God Speed dearheart! In your loss we will "cry just a little" but know you are at peace with your family and catching those big fish while singing a way in heaven! Love always, Share
Thank God you recorded your music, so you'll live on in the music you made. I know that you were good hearted man, by the way your music sounded. You have also had a profound influence on my own music.
Thank you for the add. I just heard about P. Davis' passing just a few weeks ago, and was very sad about it. He was such a solid songwriter. I'm getting to hear more of his work on MacJams. com. Really good stuff there. I've committed one song to memory "Today" and will try to keyboard it as soon as I can. For me, it's something to remember him by.
