Sounds Like

"...Handyside's solo debut has just enough low-down twang and skipping drumbeats to qualify as Americana, but it's as a singer-songwriter that he excels. His shimmering hymns offer care-worn sensitivity and reflections that are sentimental but not mawkish. And the title track's huge chorus is an absolute joy"
Q Magazine

"...a rootsy acoustic troubadour with a masterful grasp of his craft...an easy listen with cuts like Forever Ending and Let The Lights Go Down achieving rare tenderness and a genuine emotional impact" Mojo

"... an inspiring listen... an accomplished singer-songwriter plying his trade superbly well" Maverick

"...each tune is a delightful labour of love...Expect to see it featured on the more sensible lists of top albums for 2008" Morning Star

"...an engaging and addictive collection of songs with a dark, ruminating country underbelly and dreamy melodies" Roomthirteen.com

"Handyside truly deserves to be discovered on a global scale. Let now every heart rejoice, indeed." Netrhythms.co.uk

"... Delicate songs and beautiful warmth, sensitive intelligent erudite goodness. Gentle songs, hints of Americana, timeless and personal and lines full of good intent. A master of his craft, impressive and enjoyable, a river of fine song and rather recommended" Organmagazine.com

"With the 'sensitive' troubadour market already swamped and threatening to dull our senses forever, Handyside's less obvious take is an absolute pleasure" 'Planet Sound' Channel 4 Teletext

"... a fine record which carries itself with gravitas and dignity" Whisperin' & Hollerin' (Republic of Ireland)

".. epic, atmospheric and ambitious... Handyside shows his talents have only improved down the years" Rock n Reel

"... tender, fragile, dreamy, pure, subtle... severely addictive" Real Roots Cafe (Netherlands)

"The almost hymnal Midwinter's Feast and the minor chord magic of Darkest Night are rare wonders, while the title track shifts up through the gears from Rufus Wainwright baritone to Slade-style singalong." Birmingham Sunday Mercury

"The thing that struck me immediately was his voice, clear and strong. Get this CD, you won't be disappointed, believe me. " Roots Highway (Italy)

"Exceptionally strong, elegant, darkly shimmering, erudite, intelligent, sensitive but tough songs" Unpeeled.net

"... a brilliant album that makes you long for more... " Rootstime (Belgium)

"Beautiful, bleak yet fragile songs, like a brittle Sunday morning - a great record" Orlando Weekly (USA)

"... a rare talent... " Fatea Records

"... delicate melodies reminiscent of the best of pop-country-folk. " CD Reviews.com (USA)

"Handyside and his trio slowly reveal some truly beautiful rootsy music. " Aiding Abetting (USA)

"... songs of real beauty, you should definitely be checking it out. " Zeitgeist

"... a mighty fine album... " Americana-uk.com

"Just like Nick Lowe he steers a completely personal course which will prove timeless" Hanx (Netherlands)

"... a well-rounded debut, from an experienced and talented songwriter. " isthismusic.com

   About Paul Handyside

Singer songwriter Paul Handyside was founder member of eighties indie group HURRAH! who had several releases on Arista and Kitchenware records. Paul then went on to tour and record with fellow Kitchenware label-mate Martin Stephenson. In 2001 he formed Bronze and released two albums "The statue in the stone " and "A common prayer".

Now solo, Paul's songwriting is a mixture of americana, pop, gospel, folk and 19th century hymns.

Paul has covered "Bachelor kisses" for the tribute album "Love goes on" (Rare Victory Records) to celebrate the songwriting talent of Grant McLennan from the Go Betweens.

"Future's dream" has been included in The Morning Star's Top 10 albums of 2008. " ...in years to come, don't be surprised if you see a musical icon declaring this album as an early influence on their career"

Hello, after an unfortunate hiatus, the reasons for which are probably best not gone into here, we finally have some new music on the AUK MySpace site. For your listening pleasure this month we offer Nathan Oliver, Conrad Ford, the irrepressible Todd Snider and the delightful Beccy Owen. Don't forget too, for those of you within striking distance of Leicester, Electric Dustbowl 2 on 19 September.

Hello, it's that time of the month again when we add more lovely music to our site. This month's happy foursome are The Barker Band in wistful mode, the summer of love-ish Old Californio, the anything but summer love-ish Christopher Rees and, wait for it..."Travelling Salesman's Young Wife Home Alone On Christmas In Montpelier, VT" from Casiotone For The Painfully Alone, which evenr if it was rubbish (and it's not) just had to be included for the names alone.

Hello again,

It’s that time of the month and our site has four new tracks up for your listening enjoyment.

This month’s box of delights include the swaggering groove of Blackie & The Rodeo Kings, the insanely catchy folk-pop of Antje Duvekot, the languid Great Lake Swimmers and, a little belatedly but better late than never, The Young Republic.

A particularly strong month, even if we do say so ourselves. Check them out, you won't regret it.

Hello, we're back again with great new tracks on our page. This month we have some rural bleakness from The Roe Family Singers, the dark intensity of Eamon Dowd, a new song from roots legend Neal Casal and frenetic but compelling from Novillero on the delightfulyl titled but not-at-all-smelly Paco Rabanne. Hope you like them all.

Hello and a Happy New Year to you. An eclectic bunch of songs new to the site this month. The frankly uncategorisable Icelandic band Storsveut Nix Noltes, the sardonic lyics (plus ukelele) of Dent May. some dark folk from The Deep Dark Woods and emerging US singer-songrwiter Israel Nash. Hope you like them all.
